Bestest Parts of 2010

Get ready for picture overload.

MY FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM 2010!!!

Living in Cali for the Summer with Bil Bil.  No work and no school (I am a teacher and Billy is a student at BYU).  It was amazing and we will be doing the same thing this summer.  Beach, run, sleep, eat, run, eat continue.

California 32.jpg

Weird dancing photo at Olvera Street in LA.  Best taquitos you will ever eat. Ever.

Getting and working on Billy's dream car:)

One year anniversary. This boy deserves a medal for dealing with my craziness this long.

Many Vegas trips.

The best salad I have ever eaten at La Sirena Grill in Dana Point, Cali. Seriously, I died and went to heaven.

IMG_1093 3.jpg

Lots of fun times with the nieces and nephews.

California 108.jpg

Hiking, biking, feeding fishies and enjoying the outdoors.

California 142.jpg

Billy's softball games.  Don't worry they took first place in the tournament.  I get really into these games.  Like, I think I embarrass Billy a little with all of my cheering.

IMG_0249.jpg

And time for some cheesiness....starting this blog and meeting all of my new friends.  You guys have become a huge part of my life and I can't wait to share 2011 with you!!!

What were your bestest parts of 2010?

Running Lessons

I learned something new today.

IMG_3365.jpg

Speedy 16 year old track star brother-in-law and I went on a run.

The fam was going to Costco so we thought we would run there and meet them.

8.3 miles in 60 minutes.

Met the fam and ate lunch....I had the grilled chicken salad and ate half of my bro's ice-cream Sundae.

photo-4.JPG

I had the brilliant idea to run back right after I ate.  Good thinking Janae.

The first 3 miles felt great the second 3 hurt so bad.  I almost lost my lunch at least 4 times.  I ran a total of 14.5.

Overall, it was beautiful outside.

I learned something new.....don't eat a ginormous lunch of fiber and dairy before you set out on a run.

Not every run is a good one.

Runs like this one make you APPRECIATE the good one's so much more.

Took a 20 minute ice bath and had to give myself a pep talk to come up with the above optimistic points of view.

Tell me about a running/exercise lesson that you have learned recently!!!!

Drunk on Shrimp and crab

We had a dirty night.

IMG_3326.JPG

But don't worry I was bibbed.

IMG_3308.jpg

and so was Billy but for some reason he thought he was getting a mug shot.

IMG_3310.jpg

I think I ate half the pacific ocean.

IMG_3323.JPG

P.S. I don't know what I am doing with my left hand.  At this point I had lost all motor coordination.

IMG_3354.JPG

There may have been a few shrimp fights.  I know, I am a weirdo but I like life like that.

IMG_3335.JPG

I am pretty sure we laughed throughout the entire meal.

IMG_3325.JPG

Time to wash our clothes and the garlic lemon butter sauce out of my hair.

I don't know if I am going to be able to go back to broccoli and poor people food on Sunday.

IMG_3297.jpg

P.S. I recommend marrying s. cali boys that dress in cardigans, corduroys and Sperry Topsiders.  So hot.

What is your favorite type of seafood?

-Hands down crab.

Are you a messy eater? Do you eat fast or slow?

-I usually spill at least once a day on myself.  Depends on what I am eating.  Food-fast.  Dessert-slow and savor every last bite.

Since this is a running blog too.....what is your favorite race distance?

-Marathon all the way but I could see myself loving ultra's in the future.

New Breakfast Buddy

Charlie and I had a romantic breakfast for two this morning.

IMG_3292.jpg

I am a little mad at him....he wouldn't even take a break from his grub to take a picture and he came to eat mine as soon as he was finished.

Now I know how Billy feels.

Honey, I will no longer steal bites from your plate when I am finished with mine and still hungry.  I will now just order/or make two entrees for me for each of my meals.

Win-win.

Workout:

30 Minutes stairclimber.

30 Minutes elliptical

3.85 speedy run with Billy and my brother-in-law that is on the track team.  I am trying to convince him to move to Utah....he is so stinkin fast and so fun to run with.

6.6 minutes too many weights.  I even attempted some push-ups.  Be proud.

What are your plans today?

-We are going to the running store Snail's Pace.....my heaven and then to a fancy seafood restaurant.....my heaven.   Expect me to eat at least 2 lbs. of crab.

Do you have a pet?  Do you like animals?

-I LOVE animals.  I want a dog so bad.  Billy told me as soon as my responsibility sticker chart is filled up (by doing things like not loosing my purse and phone every two seconds) I can get my very own puppy.  It will probably be 5 years.

Wednesday Wahoo's

Good news P-town Gold's Gym members I am picking up another spin class: Thursday's 6 a.m.  It is going to be a guaranteed good time.

Now on to the good stuff.....

I don't think I can even explain to you how much I love Wahoo's.

IMG_3280.JPG

I literally have dreamt about it.

We are living in Cali this next summer and I am considering getting a job here just so I can sneak in the back during my shifts and eat the cajun seasoned fish with guacamole and pico every 7 minutes.  I haven't told Billy yet but I applied for him to work at Golden Spoon during the summer so that he can bring me home quarts of free ice cream and gummy bears.

IMG_3284.JPG

Every time we come to S. Cali Billy knows we have to go to Wahoo's.  If we don't he knows that I will be a grump the whole 10 hour drive home telling him that he must not know me because going to this restaurant is a big deal to me.

IMG_3283.JPG

My favorite salad ever.  Cajun fish, pico, guac, cheese and tortilla strips.

We came home and made brownies and watched 18 episodes of Man vs. Food.

Workout Wednesday Morning:

45 minutes stair-climber

45 minutes elliptical (read Dean Karnazes 50 50 book.....see how I do that here).

15 minutes weights.....I was so bored I would have rather been watching golf or sitting in a physics class.

Go wish LAURA @ MEET VIRGINIA a happy Birthday!!!

Have you ever been to Wahoo's Fish Taco's?

-If not. Go. Now.

Do you like the Food Network Channel? What about Man vs. Food?

-Yes and Yes

What was your Wednesday Workout?

You know you ate too much when.....

I have been eating a few too many of these.....

IMG_3142.JPG

because this happened.....

IMG_3050.JPG

I sat down on the corner of the bed and the whole thing broke.

IMG_3052.JPG

I wish I could say it was an old bed, but it is brand new.

I have officially heard every fat joke in the book by my brother-in-laws and husband oh yeah and my mother-in-law through in a few too.

Maybe I need to run 29 miles tomorrow.

P.S. Please know that I am kidding about the whole fat thing.  I just think it is really fun to make fun of myself.

Have you ever broken anything by sitting on it?

-A few months ago I broke my parents stool too.  It hurt my tailbone.

What are your New Year's plans?

-We are chaperoning our Brother-In-Laws dance.  I can't wait to embarrass him muhahaha.

Double Chins Are The New Black

I lied to you guys again.  Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day but when my bro-in-law and Billy laced up their shoes for a late night run there was no way I could skip that.

I would have sat by the door whining like a sad little puppy until they got home.

Running in the dark is the greatest especially when it is still 55 degrees, you are with two huge strong men and you don't see a car the whole time.

I felt like I was 8 years old again playing night games on my street.  I felt so free.

IMG_3277.jpg

3.3 Miles 7:20 average

I love matching people.  I sometimes wait to get ready for the day until Billy has just so I can pick an outfit that looks good with him.  Poor guy.

I told him to do an awkward pose.  Why do I love making myself look weird.  Thank you for loving me unconditionally bloggies.

It is raining again outside so it is off to the gym I go.  Maybe I will pump some serious iron today.

Go wish Kirstie@ Fifty K's Footnotes a happy birthday!!

How often do you weight train?

-I used to be so good and do it 2-3 times a week.  Now I barely soup cans.....I make Billy do it.

Do you run at night or in the dark?

-You couldn't pay me to by myself.  I tend to freak myself out and picture grizzly bears or the skinny scary guy from the 6th Sense chasing after me.  Now that Billy is running I think we might do it more often.

Tribute to cones

Since today is a rest day you know I will be doing a lot of food talking.

FYI NO KNEE PAIN after yesterday's run. I am telling you.....if you have an injury take time off.  It won't kill you and you will make your come back:)

My shoulders are the only things that are really sore.  Weird.  I guess it is a sign I should pick up those dumb bell looking things every now and then. I can run 2 hours on a treadmill without getting bored but send me to the weight room and I can't last 5 minutes  Too bad running isn't the only workout your body needs.

Today we did one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.

I love going to the old main streets or historic parts of different towns and walking up and down the streets going into the little shops.

Park City Main Street is my favorite.   When Billy and I first started dating I remember him picking me up from school (yes, mom I sluffed my BYU classes every now and then)  and surprised me by taking me to Park City to shop on main street and eat at our favorite pizza joint.  Can you see why I was whipped from the very beginning?!?!

IMG_3267.JPG

Cute G-ma & G-pa bought me the cutest little measuring spoons.  These will be used every day.

IMG_3271.JPG

I love heart everything.  Heart necklaces, earring, sticky notes, rings, cookies.  That cheesy section in Claire's with heart everything was designed with me (and most 12 year old girls) in mind.  Even better is when there is glitter too.

Look what we found...... The name is 100% correct

IMG_3274.jpg

Can I just express my deep love for ice cream cones.

There is something magical about strolling the streets with a cute little sprinkle cone enjoying chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream that makes me realize that life rocks.

IMG_3276.JPG

Came home and made turkey sandwiches.  Not to be cocky but I am an expert sandwich maker.  I broiled the bread, turkey and provolone in the oven first and it took the sandwich to another level.  P.S. Parsley is amazing on sandwiches.

Now we are driving down the mountain back to San Clamente....I am making myself car sick by typing this but I am willing to do it just for you guys. Now that is love.

Do you get car sick or motion sickness?

-Only when I am writing a post driving down the most windy roads.  That ice cream may make an appearance again soon I gotta end this post asap.

Tell me about one of your first dates with your hubby/wife, bf/gf, fiancee or even just a hottie?

-B-dawg took me to the Dashboard Confessionals concert for one our first dates.  I am telling you I was whipped big time.

Sugar cone, cake cone, waffle cone, dipped waffle cone with sprinkles or a boring cup that is bad for the environment.

-Me just being green here, it has nothing to do with deliciousness;) but I always go for the waffle cone dipped in chocolate and sprinkles.

Pizza that will blow your mind

It's FITCHOCOHOLIC'S B-day! Make sure to stop by her blog and wish her a happy birthday!

Email me your adresses ladies:)

We are at Billy's grandparents house in Big Bear drinking hot chocolate, playing with puppies and staying in our pj's.  I don't know if I will be able to go back to reality.

IMG_3264.JPG

I was craving salad and 4.5 bowls of cereal and Billy was craving a apple pie and ice cream shake.  We went with our craving for breakfast. And my bro-in-law is looking mighty creepy in this picture.

So, I haven't talked about pizza for awhile but that doesn't mean I haven't been eating it.  We made a huge Christmas Eve Pizza Feast.

I tried a new method of having one piece in each hand and alternating bites from 2 different types of pizza.  Try it.

My Mother-In-Laws amazing pizza dough recipe:  (Makes 3 pizzas) P.S. It is super quick too.

Put the pizza stone in the oven and preheat to 500 degrees.

In a mixer bowl put:

3.5 cups hot tap water

3.5 cups bread flour

1/4 cup sugar

3 Tbs instant yeast

Mix until moistened, cover, let "sponge" for 8 minutes.

Then, add 1 T. salt and remaining bread flour (4-6 C).  From the time you start the mixer and start adding flour until desired consistency is reached, let the mixer knead for a total of 8 minutes.

Remove dough from mixer bowl and pinch off three equal portions.

Spread cornmeal on one of the pizza peels.  Roll out the dough, alwayys pushing from the center towards the outside.  While rolling the dough, occasionally "slide and shake" the dough to make sure it isn't sticking to the peel.  If it sticks, lift the dough and spread more corn meal under it.

With a pastry brush, brush the pizza dough with garlic, olive oil and garlic salt.

Total baking time is 7 minutes!!! Pop any bubbles in the dough with a sharp knife at about 3.5 minutes, put on your toppings and finish cooking.

IMG_3054.JPG

IMG_3072.JPG

Pesto, mozarella, veggies and the avocado was the best part.

IMG_3068.JPG

Thai chicken: Peanut sauce, carrots, white bean sprouts, cilantro, chicken, roasted peanuts.

IMG_3069.JPG

BBQ Chicken with avocado and red onion.  I forgot what the other half was sorry.  Memory loss at the age of 24...it happens.

IMG_3063.JPG

My creation and personal fave: Pesto, mozzarella, tomato's, chicken and cilantro.

IMG_3074.JPG

Of course we had to make a dessert pizza! Butter, cinnamon sugar, pears and white chocolate chips.  Random works when all of the ingredients are amazing.

Where and what was the best pizza you have ever had?

- I really might have to say this dough recipe and these combinations are my absolutely favorite ever.  I will go to Italy one day and eat pizza for ever meal...along with gelato that is.

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

-Salad and oatmeal squares. Normal I know.

Traffic makes my stomach hurt

So what does one eat to restore those glycogen stores after a 28 mile run:

Of course eat greasy Mexican Food.  I know that is what you were all thinking.

We left for Big Bear at 12:30, hit traffic and didn't get to one of the Jacob family's favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints until 2:30.

Let's just say I was starting to get a tid bit cranky and I started gnawing at my pillow and checking under the seats for old pretzels and gummy bears.

IMG_3222.JPG

IMG_3223.JPG

Fish taco and a shrimp burrito with a side of greasy bangs.

Somehow I can find enough time to finish all 10 seasons of Friends for the eleventh time, bake at least two goodies a day and run for hours but I am WAY too busy to waste time on things like hair, plucking my eyebrows or fixing my fingernail polish.

IMG_3227.jpg

Billy mentioned the words ice cream at lunch which is always a mistake because once someone says those words I can't stop thinking about it until I have it in my hands.

MANDATORY stop at Mickey D's....my poor in-laws deal with my craziness quite well.

Do you have any favorite hole in the wall restaurants?

-There is a place in Provo called "Diego's" and it is beyond good.  Just don't peak into the kitchen.

Do you like seafood?

-I could live off of seafood.  I love it all.  I can eat sashimi, crab, lobster, shrimp, mahi, halibut, salmon and tuna tataki like it is my last meal.  Crap, my own question made me hungry again.

I accidentally ran a marathon plus 1.8 today

You thought I was crazy before......just wait.

I set out at 6:39 a.m. for a long, easy pace run.  I have properly carb loaded with cinnamon rolls and skittles for the last four days so I was set to go.

New playlist

+Sea Level elevation (I am used to running in Mountain Goat habitats)

+Lots of happy things to think about

+All the free time in the world

+Temps in the 50's

+New running gear from Christmas

+A new course I have never run before with plenty of hills and a gorgeous view of the ocean.

=28 miles in 3:49:29

Screen shot 2010-12-27 at 11.31.17 AM.png

I was just going to run to the ocean and have Billy pick me up but once I got there I felt like a million bucks and had to challenge myself.

There were rolling hills the entire run and I am pretty sure this was a great training run for Boston.  A total of 3102 feet of climbing uphill and 3092 feet downhill.

Rest day yesterday and at least two rest days after day.

Currently typing this from my ice bath.   I asked Billy to come take a picture of me in my ice bath but something about modesty and the fact I look like I have been ran over by a truck...we decided against it.

Off to Big Bear to hang with the grandparents.

I will be reading all of your blogs from my iphone.  I can't comment but know that I am commenting in my head and loving every second of it.

Keep in mind my ridiculous mileage has nothing to do with losing weights.  I am actually trying to gain a few lbs by eating ridiculous amounts of calories (like at least 3,000 a day)

****I am doing this because I will have a sub 3 hour marathon and you may even see me in the Olympics some day.

When and where was the most beautiful run you have ever had?

-I am going to have to say today's wins.

What is your most memorable running/exercise/fitness accomplishment?

-My last marathon.... and today for the distance:)

If you could choose to be anywhere in the entire world right this second....where would it be?

How to lose the Holiday Weight

1. Amputation.  For bigger results go for the legs.

2. Don't drink any liquid for the next 48 hours and make sure to work out as much as you can.

3. Throw away every last morsel of non-diet food in your kitchen. Vegetables and most fruits allowed.

4. Take lots of pills and supplements that promise instant weight loss and instant self-confidence and love for one's body.

5. Use all of your gift cards and sell all of your presents to pay for all the plastic surgery you can get.

n749446310_2892314_4420887.jpg

Obviously, I am JUST KIDDING.  You know I REFUSE to fall into the diet industries annual 40 billion dollar trap.

I know a lot of women and men all over are kicking themselves for indulging a little or a lot over the holidays.

I want you to go look in your mirror right now and recite:

"Dang, I am one fine woman (or man).  I am not going to beat myself up for enjoying the holidays.  I am worth so much more than a silly number that tells me what my gravitational pull is."

You will fall back into your normal eating habits, you will be able to workout just as much as you did before and your body will go to its happy place.....just give yourself some slack and let it happen:)

mmk?  Thanks.

P.S. I have no idea what that picture has to do with this post other than you should put on a tiara every now and then and take pictures of other people taking pictures while your students are quietly working on a test.

Christmas Favorites

Look who joined me for a little Christmas trot.......

IMG_3137.JPG

It's THE Billy.  The temps were perfect and of course I wanted to impress a certain someone by running speedy.

Hilly 3 mile run in 20:52.....I am loving my new little pace keeper:)

We came home and opened our stockings (I never want to grow up) and dug into these cinnamon rolls that the sister-in-law and I made yesterday.  (Recipe to come tomorrow).

IMG_3150.JPG

(Prepare them the day before and cook them for 3/4ths the time recommended.  Freeze overnight and stick them in the oven that morning for the remaining time and they taste fresh without having to get up at 5:30 a.m. to bake)

Some of the favorite gifts:

IMG_3156.jpg

My bro-in-law literally wrapped up a banana, orange, broccoli and a visa gift card to buy produce with.  He knows me way too well.

It looks like I am crying, because I am.....I was laughing so hard.

IMG_3160.JPG

This is a date night gift basket from my in-laws, the other married siblings got one too.  Not awkward at all.  Yes, that is massage oil and a candle.

Billy gave me this book.....already, so so good.  Dean Karnazes is my hero.

IMG_3201.jpg

In case you are wondering I wore these pj's for at least 36 hours straight.....only changing once into running clothes and then right back into them.

Spent the afternoon playing, 'Minute to Win It," and manicures at our friends house.

IMG_3172.jpg

IMG_3178.jpg

IMG_3185.jpg

That would be Billy shaking his booty trying to get the candy canes out of the tissue box.

Glitter nails.  At least I am not the only twenty something year old girl trying to be a tween.  To defend myself I did stop watching Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movies almost a year ago.

IMG_3200.JPG

Ended the perfect day by watching 'Despicable Me' and 'Inception' while eating some more cinnamon rolls dipped into hot cocoa with a side of popcorn on top of M&M's.

Tell me your highlights from Christmas.

What was the best goodie you ate on Christmas?

-Mine was definitely the homemade cinnamon rolls.  I could dip 95% of my daily food intake into that frosting and be happy.
