I promise I am wearing shorts.

After teaching spin last night I was hungry.  I wanted to wait to eat dinner with Billy after he got home at 9 p.m. but decided I should have a little appetizer.  While debating on what to have I went through the checklist....

Grains- check

Protein-check

Dairy-check

Fruit and Veggies- check

Healthy fats- check

Ice cream-  what the heck.......NOOOOO.

I did what any normal girl experiencing uterus pain would do.

Walk by yourself to get an ice cream cone and take a self-portrait.

IMG 5996

I have to admit it was rather difficult finding something to prop my camera up on that was the right height so I just decided to make it look like I was popping a squat and eating ice cream at the same time.

Even though it looks as though I am just wearing bright white leggings, rest assured those are actually my legs and I do have shorts on but the whole squatting with two broken femurs doesn't really allow me brain space to focus on the details of pulling my shorts down a little.

What I am loving about going for WALKS:

-I am grateful I don't walk with a limp anymore:)

-No music. I always listened to music when I ran and it is really nice to just take time to think without LInkin Park blasting in my ears.

-Fresh air always makes life that much better.

-I don't get as many bugs flying into my mouth (long story but yes, that is a problem for me when I run)

-I can look around at everything without worrying about falling flat on my face (not that I haven't tripped on sidewalk cracks a million times or anything).

-I don't have to worry about pace, hiding water bottles along my course (7 blocks to the ice cream store), and I don't even have to change into a sports bra if I don't want to.

-People wave.  Uh.....I JUST LOVE THAT.  Just like runners have that special bond as you run past each other...so do walkers.  Endorphins just make people more friendly than normal:)

Here is the spin playlist.  I brought back some oldies that will always be classics in my book.

Screen shot 2011 05 11 at 6 04 55 PM

Sorry to cut things short but Billy-bobster just walked in the door and we gotta make dinner, brush our teeth and say our prayers all within 23 minutes before my bedtime.

Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY...winner will be picked on Friday!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you live in an area that it is easy to walk to the places you need to go?

-I wish I could walk to work every day but no luck......but we do live in an area that we can walk to the store and the necessities like ice cream and 7-11's candy aisle.  Freshmen year of college was so fun because I didn't have a car and would just walk everywhere...LOVED IT.

What are your favorite things about going for walks?

-I think if I had a puppy (hint hint) that would be the bestest part!

What food group have you added to your daily food checklist?

-Help me learn from you because I don't think ice cream cones are the best options:)

No walk-to ice cream shops here. We had a local ice cream shop back home though that you could walk to. With lots of high school kids, it made quite it's worth in profit over the summers!

I walk a fair amount. The army post here is about a 15 minute walk from our apartment, and I meet my husband there about once a week to go to the gym. There are several stores and restaurants within walking distance as well, but since my hubby hurt his knee we don't walk as much as we did when we first got here.

I used to live in a super walkable area, but where I'm at now is not so pedestrian friendly. The sidewalks kind of stop and start without reason. Why in the world would you put in 200 feet of sidewalk then call it quits?

Love the Good Charlotte throwback on your spin playlist! Walking is one of my favorite things to do because it's just so relaxing, and I always walk around campus instead of taking the bus. When I'm home, my dog comes everywhere with me (on walks, running, playing outside), and I really miss her when I'm at school.

I wish I lived in a place where I could walk more. Virginia Beach is really spread out and I have to drive almost everywhere. There are also still a lot of older roads that have no sidewalks around here. I miss living in miami where I walked everywhere. It was awesome. I could even bring my dog with me to most places!

We live five minutes from the beach, two minutes from the river, so the cool thing is that as long as weather permits, there is ALWAYS somewhere to walk. Utah is prettier though, so I'm a little jealous :)

Ice cream is a food group!! I walk my puppers every single day...I love it!! They MAKE you take them out whether you want to or not...you def. need a doggie! If you don't want to potty train (a pain!!), have to spend a couple hundred dollars on puppy shots, then money to get your pupper fixed, I'd recommend getting a pup that is over a yr old. I got my lab when she was a tiny baby and my boxer when he was three...he is so much easier but my lab and I have a special bond. Also, puppies can't be left alone all day at first. Sorry for the novel! haha. take care darling

I guess the best part and worst part of living in NY is that you walk everywhere. It is not fun when it is too cold and not fun when it is too hot but most days I would say are great. I really do love walking everywhere.

Oh and my grains and carbs! Love them and have to get them in everyday!

One of my favorite things about living in a big city is that I can walk everywhere. I do walk to work every morning, and now that the weather is warmer, it is MUCH more pleasant. Sometimes I too like walking with no music, and other times I get super bored. It's only 15 minutes, but still.. Happy almost Friday!

I just took a picture exactly like yours, me smiling with an ice cream cone from McDonald's, only not propped on anything!

Ice cream cones are the best :)

Springtime is awesome for ice cream AND walks. I love just listening to nature when I'm walking, since like you, I'm always plugged into my iPod while running.

Can I just say that I am prayyyyying to the New Balance Gods to win your giveaway. I suppose if I don't win, I'll just have to buy myself an "end of the school year, oh thank the sweet lord that I didn't quit/get fired/die from elementary kid germs" gift... :)

My neighborhood does have a cute coffee shop and some random restaurants/businesses...but no ice cream shop. It's not the ideal location for walkers, but its okay.
My daily food checklist has recently added dried fruit...apricots, to be specific! SO YUMMY!

I live 12 miles from a tiny town (it has a grocery store, post office, gas station, and probably 3 bars), so when I walk, it's just to walk. :) It's nice and peaceful, though, and there are lots of animals - both wild and domestic. I can't wait to walk again- 1-1/2 more weeks on crutches if all goes well. :)

I LOVE walking with my pup...you really have to get a dog. It is the most relaxing thing ever :)

new daily food group: chocolate. I am not sure there has ever been a day in my life that I have not had at least one thing chocolate. But I try to incorporate it into every meal. And I make sure it is dark chocolate because it tastes better and you know...it is better for you...right? LOVE YOU!

I LOVE walking too! As a college student in a great city I can get almost anything I need by walking. And when I can't walk I love to bike. ITs so much more enjoyable than driving in my opinion. I love the calmness, and also how i can actually hear myself think because just like you I BLAST music when I run! Also I love walking with people. You don't have to worry about matching pace or being too out of breath to speak to each other. I think the best talks happen on walks.
food hmmmm, it hasn't been just lately, but EGGS! honestly every day in some form, no fail!

But not only do I have to worry about getting run over by bad drivers, but there are no really cute shops or anything within walking distance. Boo. It always makes me wish I lived in a smaller town where everyone knows everyone and stuff, but at the same time I think I might get bored...

Walking has been my favorite (and only) activity in the last 4 months....not sure I commented on this earlier...just started following you about a month or so ago. I had a sledding accident right after Christmas which resulted in a broken C2 vertabrae and a temporary end to my almost daily running ritual. It has been a HARD four (almost 5) months!! So I totally know your pain!!! I couldn't even do yoga or pretty much any other strength training either. It's amazing how your neck really is important to every function, go figure! But in any case, enjoy what you can now, give your body a chance to heal, and you'll be back to your old self soon enough...I just got the "all healed" verdict yesterday and am so full of joy!! I went on a nice walk without the neck collar yesterday and it was great! Maybe in another month I'll be back to pounding the pavement..and maybe this'll get my hubby to start running, since I'll probably be much slower than I was before. :) It's a nice goal to have at least...but keep up the healing process and attitude and you'll be better soon!!

I love taking walks with my little ladies, we stop at the little pond and streams on the road and throw rocks in them. Except for the sparkly rocks, we have to keep those. :) Unfortunately I don't have a single store within walking distance. 7 mile round trip to the closest one, and I can't even get the girls to sit still for 4 running without complaining, so 7 is out of the question.

Foods on my checklist--eggs, oatmeal, peanut butter, greek yogurt, bananas. I could live on those foods alone. :)

You're right about the pup! She's too small to go running with me, she can't really keep up. But when I go walking I get to take her with me. She has so much fun! Definitely my favorite part :) I also listen to podcasts when I'm walking instead of music, and it's nice to have a change.

LOVE "Club can't handle me"! Favorite workout song :)

Honestly the best part of having a SFX in my foot was all of the walks I got to take (once the healing process was under way). Southern California offers so many scenic routes and although they are gorgeous while running, sometimes walking lets you take it all in a little better, instead of starring at your garmin 12 times a minute! You need to hurry out here for a visit!

We have some nice trails around our apartments and I try to get out and take Cooper on a 45 minute walk three times a week (if the weather holds out). I have noticed that people wave, at first I found it strange...but now I am used to it and love it :) I love walking for some of the same reasons you do, no reason to have to feel the need to push myself, carry extra snacks, etc. Just fun and simple!

I live in New York City, the walking city! One of my favorite aspects of the city is the fact that I can walk anywhere and along the way discover really great restaurants, stores, coffee shops, and great people watching. One of my favorite past times is wandering through the city. It's free (unless I get tempted to stop for a treat on the way), it's exercise, and it clears my head.

I used to run a lot and I really miss it (just like you do) but my recent cancer diagnosis has prevented me from the energy to go for a full-on run. I'm done with treatment in June and I am going for a celebratory run! So in a way, I can relate to you about the whole not being able to run issue because of health/physical issues. One day we will be back out there running our little butts off! :)

My place has a few little places that I can walk to where I can get necessities like toilet paper and ice cream, but that's about it. Dean's place though has just about everything. We can walk to dinner, a movie, heck, even a club if we wanted to. But we don't.

Walking is really relaxing for me. When I walk alone, it gives me the opportunity to think about things that I usually don't have time to think about. When I go for walks with Dean/friends/family, we get to talk about things. Just anything! It's so hard with this world full of social media to actually go out and talk to people so I think walks are perfect for that :)

I'm trying to add more protein to my list It's so hard for me and I can only eat so much peanut butter!

And if you can walk places, chances are there are some good running routes as well.

i love walking! i think its such a good stress relief (so is running) but its much more relaxed and you can take the time to enjoy yourself and appreciate your surroundings. we live about 1 mile from "downtown" so in the summer we always walk to go out to eat, go to the farmer's market (which is my fave thing to do) and get ice cream.

lately i've been obsessed with the frozen mango chunks from trader joe's. they're so freaking good and i've been going through like 1/2 bag a day (so i'm chock full of vitamins A and C!)

I've been eating lots of carbs and probable not enough protein and veggies lately, just because I am so busy (moving cross country at the end of this month!)

What are your favorite things about going for walks?

Being able to go with the family and dog...but to be honest the dog really makes it a bit stop and go...which is annoying.

What food group have you added to your daily food checklist?

I've been adding things to my smoothie because I can't fathom eating them alone...aloe vera juice, spinach, omega 3 oil....not to shabby right?

I live in Philadelphia so I'm able to walk just about anywhere. I always take my whistle (yes, strange, but a whistle will hopefully get attention before screaming 'help!' if I'm ever attacked. I also take my pit-bull along sometimes. pittbull > pepper spray). Anyway...I love to people watch so walking allows me to be as nosey as I want without sitting by my windows with binoculars!

I ALWAYS have a handful of mixed nuts each day(mostly pistacios or almonds). My mostly-fruits and veggies diet allows for some indulgence in healthy fats and protein that nuts offer!!

When my knee first became injured walking became my therapy. I would go on nice nature trails and actually enjoy the scenery (vs running where I would just be trying to reach my end of the line mark). Also, with walking I could go farther distances so I had more options to choose from than if I ran somewhere. My favorite place to walk is whole foods. I walk there and treat myself to one of their delicious meals and then walk back home. The only thing I don't like about walking is the embarassment of my knee brace.. But I also like the fact that when I walk I don't sweat nearly as much as I do when I run so I can look presentable wherever I decide to go(: I wish I lived in a place with more nature walks/trails.

My newest addition to my daily food checklest is fresh fruit. Ever since I tried to add fruit to my diet, I became obsessed with the taste. Now I find myself craving it practically every day! My favorite thing to make is a 'fruit bowl' consisting of pineapple, green grapes, and strawberries. If I am feeling adventurous on a certain day I will add another fruit such as clemetines, blueberries, green apples ect.. This is one of my top favorite snacks!
