How to fuel for a long run.

I am being completely sarcastic in this post so please do not follow my example.  I usually do try to play it smart when preparing for a long run but today was just one of those days, ya know:)

How to fuel physically and mentally for a long run:

1.  Enjoy skittles and hot chocolate while you watch a 9 a.m. showing of Tangled with 300 teenagers.  Do not be ashamed that you laughed and cried harder than anyone else in the entire theater during the movie.

Photo on 2011-02-04 at 09.17.jpg

1. a.  Do not shower or look cute so that you will be more likely to get your buns out and onto your run after work.

2.  Call your doctors office and cancel your appointment saying that you have the stomach flu.  Do this because it would have cut your long run short even though it was a run that you should have done in the early morning but snuggling Billy was more important.

Photo on 2011-02-04 at 09.25 #2.jpg

2.b.  Wear your hair in a greasy ponytail so that it already looks like you have run for 2 hours.

3. Stalk your favorite blogs during lunch to gain some motivation.

Photo on 2011-02-04 at 09.29.jpg

(my reading face).

4.  Drink another cup of hot chocolate, hydration people....come on.

Photo on 2011-02-04 at 09.30 #2.jpg

5. Double fist your free Subway sandwich from school 30 minutes before you start your run.  Ouch....fiber.

Photo on 2011-02-04 at 11.53 #2.jpg

Wish me luck....we shall see how this run goes:)

----------------------------------------------------------

Have you seen Tangled?  What is your favorite Disney movie?

-This has to be my favorite....seriously, go see it now.  I also love Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

What is your favorite pre-workout fuel?

-Bagel with pb and a banana.  Granola bars work well for me too.  Maybe skittles and hot chocolate will be my new favorite.

Any funny stories about pre-fueling mistakes?

-I will after today's run.

I pretty much eat nothing before I run, because that's all my stomach can handle.

When I very very first started running, and was still a smoker, I almost vomited on the sidewalk after running a quarter mile (I know!) after eating a bunch of fried eggs. Good times.

Same pre-long run favorite as you, except I like almond butter on my bagel instead of PB.

If you get the raw almond butter it taste so good! It's like eating a desert!

I LOOOOOVE tangled! It was hilarious, both for girls & boys I thought. But maybe I'm just rationalizing because my hubby was a total sucker for it.

Pre-work out fuel: NOTHING - just like Rose above me. I don't like eating anything before hand, that way I'm not feeling sick to my tummy :-(

But what I make sure NOT to eat? That would be my FiberOne cereal w/ my usual strawberries. Too much fiber before a run could be a little painful - if you catch my drift ;-)

I really want to see tangled, but can't convince my husband to see it in the theaters. Here's to waiting til it's on netflix!

My favorite preworkout fuel is a banana and pb. Fantastic.

I tend to eat a banana before i run in the morning and go. But i'm only doing like 3-5 miles so that has been enough so far.

I love Beauty and the Beast!

I normally eat broccoli as an afternoon snack, and on tues moved my morning run to afterwork. Not thinking i downed like 2 cups of broccoli and carrots an hour before running. Let me tell you digesting fiber on the go feels really good.

Lilo and Stitch!! But I love almost all Disney movies :D Haven't seen tangled yet.

Favorite pre-workout fuel~ Coffee. For most workouts and runs I usually like an empty stomach.
When I do eat before hand it is usually a high fiber english muffin w/ pb and banana :)

K...do you read with your hand rested on your chin? Because I seriously do and then I have to slam it down because I think I touch my face too much. I am crazy!

I haven't seen Tangled yet but it's on the *to watch* list with my little ladies!

I really enjoyed Tangled. Also love: Finding Nemo, Aladdin, Cinderella... pretty much all of them. Good luck on the run. I once ate a hot dog & mac&cheese before a run, but luckily it was only 8 miles... never again.

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites. It's the first movie I saw in a theater! I was four. :)

And pre-run, I can't eat anything (of course, right now, my runs are only 1 to 2 miles). But maybe when I am able to do TONS of miles like you, I would love a banana with peanut butter. That's usually my afternoon snack!

Kill this run, girl! Can't wait to hear about it.

I love me some Sword and The Stone, might have to watch it now that you mentioned Disney movies. Long run mistake would be not eating at all before a long run and not eating anything while on said long run. Makes for an interesting time! good luck on yours :)

I like the same thing. bread of some sort + pb (actually almond). Once I ate a some sugar-free (i.e. not tummy friendly) ice cream before running on a very public bridge. It was a bad day.

Love Tangled and love that you got to skip work to watch it. No fair!!! Tangled and Beauty and the Beast are my fav! I also really like Little Mermaid and Lion King.

I love cereal or a bagel before I workout. Smoothies are good too. Sometimes I go running while I'm still eating. I am not a patient person.

I really have not had any pre-fueling mistakes I don't think. Thank goodness. My mom had one though. Funniest story, we make fun of her to this day. She must have ate something or forgot to go potty before, but she hit the stop sign near our house at the end of her run and she said she physically could not "hold it" anymore. She came in the house laughing and crying all at once and admitted to pooping herself! Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! We call her poopy pants now and laugh at her constantly. So funny. I pray that never happens to me.

Happy weekend! I could not be more excited for the weekend and another week of Bachelor! Oh did you know crazy pants Michelle is starring in an upcoming LDS movie? What the? Who on earth would cast her. Here is the link:

Why am I obsessed with your funny pictures!? I just love them.

Last night I met a friend for dinner BEFORE I ran (i know, not the wisest choice). I had a small salad so I wasn't stuffed but then they brought these garlic bread balls to the table. I ate 3 and then asked for more. WHAT WAS I THINKING!? I had 3 more - count 'em... 6 garlicky oily balls of bread. Then, I ran.

Eww. I thought I was going to throw up the bread balls. EEK! but I didn't, because my stomach is pretty tough that way.

Mmm, skittles!! i want some!

My favorite pre run fuel is a green smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 c. SoDelicious unsweetened coconut milk, 1 tbs almond butter, a scoop of egg white powder, and a handful of spinach all in the magic bullet. Yum. I drink 3/4 of it before, and the rest after.

Do you eat before your morning runs? I don't remember seeing that in your morning routine! Oh and does your treadmill time out at 60 minutes? If it does, do you just restart it or do you restart it at a certain mile mark?

hi! I'm a new follower. figured I should leave a comment and stop just stalking. I love the blog - I am somewhat of a runner, usually only 25 miles a week, though, that's it, plus a lot of spinning! I'm trying to get up the guts to train for a half-marathon in september and your blog is great motivation! I am a teacher, too - sophomore English.

I can't eat ANYTHING before a run. if I truly need something, I go with string cheese.

Up, toy story (1 and 3), and lion king are my favorites...haven't seen tangled yet....but I pretty much love all disney movie so I guess I will give it a go! I am a disney freak - went there for the first part of my honeymoon and actually told my husband the other day that I don't want to go to disney with our future little ones because then we will have to do things they want to do and I won't get to have fun.

I cant eat too soon before I run. I need to have at the very least an hour of digestion if I want to make it through. Unless its a banana. Bananas are totally fine even 30 seconds before I walk out the door.

I want to see Tangled, I think it looks so good! My all time favorite is, and always will be, The Little Mermaid. When I was little, I was certain I sang exactly like Ariel, and thought it was quite possible they stole my voice without me knowing it.

Loved this! Too cute. Tangled is hands down my favorite too! Loved it. And Little Mermaid is my favorite too....only Disney movie I owned as a kid and watched over and over and over. Can sing every song.

Dave and I loved Tangled!! I'm also a big fan of Mulan and Emperor's New Groove.

Fueling mistakes: eating an apple (gives me horrible cramps and makes me feel dizzy) or a banana (massive puking). Took me multiple times on both of those to figure it out. I's smarts.

Skittles and hot chocolate sounds like excellent pre run fueling to me! I HAVE to eat before I run, but nothing specific. Cereal, cliff bars, cookies... they all work for me :)

I will gladly take your greasy ponytail! It goes great with that Banana Republic jacket!

LOVE #2.

Usually eat oatmeal or egg whites for breakfast but on race mornings I always eat a bagel with PB and a banana. I set my alarm to eat at 3 am for Boston and then ate again at 7:30. Always fun to hear your alarm go off and know it's telling you to eat-ha!

Is "Despicable Me" Disney or Pixar. I laughed so hard LOUD in the theater at that one with my kids. My kids were seriously embarrassed of me-what else is new!

Hope that run went awesome:)

I haven't seen Tangled because my boyfriend saw it without me! Yes..him and his 4 guy friends, who work at the movie theatre, saw this movie together. I was furious. and still like to bring it up. I'm glad you liked it though because I can't wait to see it when it comes out! I love Disney movies!

I haven't seen Tangled yet, but I want to! My favorite has to be Sleeping Beauty with The Little Mermaid in a very close second place. :)

And bananas are my favorite pre-workout food. I couldn't live without bananas..

Tangled was AMAZING! My sister and my mom and I all went to see it and we were laughing, crying, loving the whole thing!! We need to start a list of why we're virtual soul mates :)

My son is OBSESSED with Tangled. He is 4 and completely in love with that movie and Rapunzel in general. (I even know it comes out on DVD March 29th b/c my son made me check and see!) Toy Story 3 was awesome....and I (we my family) are looking forward to the new Cars movie in June. I tend to eat a white bagel before a run. I sometimes don't eat much besides a coffee...it's bad but my stomach can't handle much.

The faces you make crack me up! I wish we could be real life friends because you look like you have so much fun!!

My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid and 101 Dalmations is a close second.

My favorite pre-run meal is an english muffin with pb and half a banana.

Mistake fuel: Grilled cheese & tomato soup
