Triple Tangent Tuesday!!!

Workout:

2 miles treadmill....my legs were aching so I listened to them and moved on to cross-training.

45 minutes elliptical.  I was bored to death.  Next cross-training day will you guys please come work out with me and entertain me.

20 minutes stairclimber.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

A brilliant reader (who is much better at english than I am) suggested doing Triple Tangent Tuesday and I love it....it sounds SO much better.  So here goes, three completely random/awkward/strange things about me and my life.  Feel free to do it on your blog.....it is a great way to get to know each other.

1. I am not on Facebook very often because I love blogging and twitter so much more but I always post my race times after a race on my Facebook status.  I do this because of ONE person that I am friends with on facebook.  In my 9th grade english class we went around the room talking about our life goals.  I said my goal was that I wanted to run a marathon someday.  This boy (I will not name names so that no one goes to beat him up) said, "You're too big (I matured very early), you could never do that."

I post my races on Facebook so that he see's that I ran a marathon in his newsfeed.  In your face _ _ _ _ _.   I clearly don't seek out revenge.

IMG_1238.jpg

I do not post the pictures on facebook because then he would have another reason to make fun of me...working on that posture and my facial expressions. Don't worry.

2.  I could eat tomatoes like an apple. I just bite right into them.  I always take Billy's tomatoes....he is crazy sauce and doesn't like them.

The End 29.jpg

3.  If I am wearing a hooded jacket I always wear the hood even if I am inside (unless I am at work, they get mad at me).  It must be some weird security issue that I have or maybe I am just always cold and covering my head keeps the heat stay in.

California 292.jpg

Maybe, I would be warmer if I didn't eat so much ice cream.

Do you remember getting made fun of as a kid or have you blocked it out of your memory?

-I try to forget but being called a poo-poo head is very traumatic.  I am actually kind of grateful that boy said what he did because sometimes I am driven by people telling me I can't do something.

What is your FAVORITE thing that has tomatoes in it?

-I love lasagna that has big thick chunky tomatoes surrounded by cheese and noodles.  Oh, I could also live off of pico de gallo.

TELL ME SOME TANGENTS ABOUT YOU!!!!

Get that revenge :) hahaha

I looooooooooooooooove tomatoes. I love to bake the little ones in the oven with basil and olive oil, and spread them on toast.

I was made fun of all the time as a kid for having a big nose and being uncoordinated.

The kids didn't make fun of me because I tricked them into believing I was a jeanie....true story..

I was teased mercilessly as a child. It was horrible. Mostly about my name and my looks. Kids can be so mean.

You are so cute with your hood and the tomatoes! I adore tomatoes and can't pick a favorite thing with them in it. Eating sliced heirloom tomatoes with a little salt is summertime heaven though.

I'm eating banana blueberry pancakes right now. I've spent the last hour watching my 2-yr old dance and twirl…too cute for words :) Well, there are 2 tangents for Tuesday anyway!

I just recently posted about this, but I was overweight throughout childhood and most of junior high. LOTS of people made fun of me. At 13 I lost 40+ lbs and was totally motivated to prove them wrong :D

I love a good Tomato, Mozz, Basil, Roasted Red Pepper salad w/ balsamic!!
and I love Roma Tomatoes any way I can get them!!

My fave thing that has tomatoes in it is bruschetta! Mmm :)

I would totally be warmer too if I at less ice cream/smoothies. I made protein ice cream this afternoon and proceeded to drink 2 cups of hot tea while lying in my bed under a million covers dressed in sweats! Oh what we'll suffer through for ice cream!

How about a Fried Green BLT.. probably not too healthy, but extremely tasty!

I'm going to tell you the saddest thing you'll hear tonight--I'm deathly allergic to tomatoes. It is the worst allergy ever because everything tasty has tomatoes.

I was bullied horrifically as a teen...
and suffered low low low self esteem into my late twenties.... that was when I started to run.
And with each step, with every mile, I started to find myself again, I even began to like myself & be PROUD of who I am! Life has never been better :)

Also, I love tomatoes... especially with salt!!

I always take mike's tomatoes too, but he loves them, so he gets mad.

I can't really remember being made fun of other than by my sister when she told my I had really hair legs at age 9. :(

I heart hoodies!!! And I do like tomatoes, just not to the extent you do. I love me some chips and salsa, though!

When I was growing up, I played soccer and my nickname was always tomato face. You probably would have loved me then, ha ha! But I guess they were right, my face still gets bright red with any kind of exercise. I am learning to embrace it.

AND now i'm craving a milkshake...

At February 8, 2011 at 4:39 PM , Anonymous Bess@Bess Be Fit said...

OMG I can eat tomatoes like that too!!!! Sprinkle a little salt and just bite right in :)

Here's a random tangent about me...whenever I touch or even look at lettuce my nose automatically just crinkles up. I don't even know why...bc I like lettuce but for some reason I just scrunch up my nose... i am weird.

I also tripped on the plastic runner that lines the inside of a track TWICE in the same week after finishing a 400...sprained my ankle the first time then tore a ligament the 2nd time...I never lived that one down with the team...I mean, who DOES that?! Only me, I think. My coach loved to say "Bess Fall Down Go Boom" all the time after that...haha

Lastly, I'm scared of flying but really wish I liked it! It would make seeing Mike a lot easier! (And seeing YOUUUU a lot easier! haha) You rule and I know we're gunna hang out one day and I can't waaaaait yo! :)

What a jerk! I'm glad you've taken that nasty person's comments and just used them as fuel to run faster and be stronger! I got made fun of ALL the time growing up, so I understand. Sometimes when I go back home I see those people again, and I'm the same way - look at me now, meanies!

I love tomatoes too! I love the little grape ones in greek salad the best I think. I also love them in salsa - which I think should be eaten with everything! One day when I get really adventurous and want to make something myself I might make some extra tomato-ey salsa!

My tangents: I am really addicted to 5 gum. I ate a package yesterday and had to buy another one today. Right now, I am enjoying a slice of 5 gum and am about to go get an algae eater so he can help my fishes clean their tank. I had black hair for 7 years.

I didn't get made fun of too badly I don't think. Nothing traumatic other than a girl cutting my hair off in 1st gorade. :) We grow our own heirloom tomatoes. They are the best! Funny thing is we plant so many and Ryan doesn't even like them very much. I make a lot of sauces with them!

Girl you already know my triple tangent for today!:)

Slash I eat tomaters like an apple, they are so good and I can eat red peppers like apples also. So. good!

I got made fun of because of my lunch box..it was barbie and I lvoed it but one girl thought it was funny (she was a tomboy, she probably showers less than I do). I still have that lunchbox:) but of course I do not use it, that would be weird.

Tangents on me: I can't live without Q-tips, I love lemons and always take everyone elses from their drinks, and I used to have a drill bit in my hand

If we meet for a pre- or post-Boston meal, you can have Billy's tomatoes AND my tomatoes. I also hate raw tomatoes. I can eat them cooked in a pasta sauce or something, but won't do raw unless there are no chunks (like a thin salsa).

I hate tomatoes. but I will eat ketchup does Billy eat ketchup?

Yes I was made fun of as a kid. I am 5'11" since I am 12 yrs old. no joke. this was not fun. the tallest of all the kids boys included. and I was flat for the longest time so they called me : plywood..lovely right?

I finally copied you and did my own tangents today!!! Your tangents are great. Good job hitting that goal even though someone told you that you couldn't. I don't really remember being made fun of much. I guess I blocked it out. I'm not a big tomato fan but I do like tomato soup.

I did get made fun of when I was little for my last (maiden) name because it rhymed with all sorts of fun words like tinkle and wrinkle and stinkle and twinkle. Eh, life. At least I'm married now and have a new, more normal last name : )

My favorite tomato dish is probably pizza. I reeeeaalllly like marinara sauce so I always ask for extra on the side. Oooh, or ketchup! When I eat a burger it's half sandwich half ketchup. I try to keep an equal ratio on things like that.

Tangent: I like a half frosting/half cake ratio on cupcakes. I recently ate one with some friends and all of them scraped the frosting off and I thought, "What are you doing? You're wasting the best part!" In short, nothing is "too rich" for me : )

At February 8, 2011 at 5:34 PM , Blogger Christine said...

Love bruschetta!

I don't spend much time on facebook, but I generally post my races. I guess I've been in denial, but I suppose I do it for much the same reason you do. Plus I think it's good to spread the news that a mom of 3 approaching 40 has still got it!

Hmmmm ....
1) Hate tomatoes ... and it bothers me because I like to eat nutritiously. I try to sneak them in my diet in ways I can't taste.
2) It fascinates me that you have a regular commenter named Mara. No one is named Mara. Trust me, I never meet them. I thought I was alone, and now I know there is another one out there somewhere.
3) My 8 yo just asked ... "Mommy, can we have our ice cream now? You know I don't like to skip my ice cream, especially on biggest loser night" I kid you not. How can I say no to her? I can't. Ice cream time!

I LOVE tomatoes!!!! Here we make this pico-ish thing but its not spicy. Just chopped bell pepper, onion, cilantro and tomato! We put it on sandwiches!!!!!
Three Tangents:
During the winter, I get so cold that my pulse measurer doesn't even register a pulse for me!!!!

I get insanely happy when I order a burger here and there's an extra pickle on it. We don't get pickles in grocery stores, so you can only get them McDonalds and Burger King. I've even asked for extra "picles" (which is how brazilians spell it).

When my sister and I are together, we end up making our own language. Part English, part portuguese, and part random hand gestures. No one else understands us!

I got made fun of for being smart and wearing glasses in school.

your facial expressions are priceless. AND the mountains in that picture of you running look as if you are running in the swiss alps with the Sound Of Music clan. I love brochette with fresh tomatoes...when they are so fresh they are sweet...yummers! I was picked on by the "neighborhood" growing up...they used to call me Joanna? SOOO random and they would sing that Joanna I love you song and I would run home crying. Still to this day I have NO idea why they sang it to me? I saw one of the "singers" the other weekend as we are still friends.
1. I love going to movies by myself. I love the movies and I will go without my husband, friends or family in a heart beat. So relaxing to me!
2. my favorite job ever was being a lifeguard (maybe I just liked sitting in the sun?)
3. I hate folding laundry and I let it pile up in stacks in my bedroom...BUT I can tell you where everything is and what is in the pile. When I do actually fold it I feel like I am accomplished SOOOO much!

My boyfriend doesn't like tomatoes either. I love it when he forgets to ask for no tomatoes at restaurants...which is 80% of the time.

well, i have a facebook frenemy that i also post all of my marathon (and sometimes training stats) for specifically. its an old college friend of mr. dawn who started doing marathons around the same time i did, but always treated me like i was a "toddler" runner. like, "oh isn't she cute, that she's trying to run?" so, i heard he was trying to qualify for boston and i thought to myself, how cool would it be if i made it and he didn't? so, yeah. now i'm going to boston this year and he hasn't even qualified yet. in fact, his last marathon he ran 10 minutes slower than i did!

man...not sure that i should care that much...but it sure does feel good :)

love tomatoes. i eat a half a box of cherry tomatoes every day in my lunch. YUMMM!

At February 8, 2011 at 7:03 PM , Blogger EBURNS said...

When I got married I became more of an athlete then I ever was because the hubby and i worked out together. After losing a few pounds my aunt asked me if I was unhappily married and losing weight due to stress. Her daughter is now divorced and I am still giddy in love after 8 years. I welcome any PDA at holidays because of this! (I'm sure there are 3 tangents in that paragraph so I'll leave it at that.)

Tomatoes: BLT in summer, garden grown tomato, and spinach instead of lettuce.

Well, I dont know if you have watched it yet, so I'll be discreet. My husband thought he knew who was going home, but I told him absolutely not. I might respect Brad if he sent her home, but I knew he wouldn't. *shocker* I was right :P haha but yeah. Its addicting to watch and I hope he ends up with emily. She's my fav. or the funeral director chick. they are my top two picks.

tomatoes are the best thing ever discovered/created/whatever. when i was little, i DID eat them like apples. my fam found me out in the garden chomping away :D

Sorry for the long comment, but I do have a question for you: when you take your ice baths, what do you do afterwards to help you not be cold for a million years??? My hubby is into them and he talked me into it, but seriously I felt like I was cold for the rest of the week afterwards...any tips would be awesome!

hahah the revenge tangent was my favorite. killed me.

I don't really remember being bullied. I remember getting odd comments here or there, but I don't really remember the specifics. I've always been able to shrug comments on because I've always had ridiculously high self worth, even when I had crappy self esteem. I guess I'm just lucky like that.

favorite thing with tomatos? two answers: tuna melt with tomatos, and caprese salad. hunks of mozzarella and tomato with olive oil on it? WHAT'S BETTER THAN THAT?

hmmm three tangents:
1. Baked Cheetos are my new favorite snack. it's ridiculous how awesome they are.
2. my all time favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch but I don't get it very often. I try not to allow myself to eat it more than like once every few months, but it's the greatest cereal that ever existed.
3. I'm terrified of three things in life: jellyfish, cockroaches, and lice. I'm a future teacher so I really need to get over my fear of lice, but they scare the crap out of me. they're just SO gross.

I have to side with Billy on this one, I do not enjoy tomatoes either. I'm nice though and give them to people who do like them.

I don't think I really remember much about being teased as a kid. Becides in 9th grade ceramics class, my table mates were always teasing me in a jokingly way, but I knew that they were half serious. Why on earth did I ever want to take ceramics though? I was HORRIBLE at it

That is too funny that you post times on facebook for that reason. I actually started getting really into running after my boyfriend of a year in high school broke up with me for someone else. He was a super popular football jock, and I didn't want people to think of me as his ex- gf, and/or that I was upset/hurt over his rejection. So I got super ticked off and ran my BUTT off to get ready for track season and make something of myself. It helped me get over the break up, and also improved my 800 time by a ton. It was the best motivation I have ever had!

My husband doesn't like tomatoes either. But tomato sauce, he loves it. Go figure.

I'm glad you blogged about that high school terd of a boy, thereby giving me the opportunity to explain to you what happened. Sometimes it's hard to realize what's going on when you're in the situation, but it's perfectly obvious to me that he had massive crush on you. He might as well have pulled your hair or put a bug in your lunchbox. (He's also probably fat now.)

I lose all feeling in my fingers when it's cold outside, fl cold that is, and this am it took me approximately 2 minutes to unlock my front door. I was struggling and trying not to wake up my roommate at the same time! I also had a cough attack while being fit for running shoes tonight...embarrassing.

I'm with Billy, and don't really care for tomatoes! Lol. I love pizza and spaghetti, though. I think it's just the texture.. Haha.

HA love your tangents you hilarious girl!Tomatoes are awesome!! Best on pizza obviously:)

TANGENT TIME:
1. Overheard the weights guys at the gym say "look, it's Crazy Runner Girl again!". Apparently me and you *almost* share a name! :P

2. I ate a whole head of broccoli yesterday. Addiction.

3. Last week I walked past a boy, who must've been about 9, and we were wearing the same hoodie. I'm not quite sure who was more embarrassed...

I was always made fun of as a kid, mostly for being out of shape and unfit. Oh, and fugly. Anyway, I totally understand your FB vengeance because I would do the same thing! I actually had a very similar comment made to me by the girls on the x-country team.

Roasted tomatoes=heaven, particularly with pasta.

I love that! Facebook revenge!

Tangents...Hmmm...

1. I was made fun of as a kid. Chubby with thick glasses - what more could a mean kid ask for? Both of those are gone now!

2. I have this weird thing about my feet after I take a shower. I cant walk around the house without slippers on. It's like my feet cant touch the ground. I guess I like to keep that clean feeling on my feet. Weird I know.

3.I eat my hubby's tomatoes too! He hates them unless their in a sauce - crazysauce!!

Have a great day!!

I would rather eat a bowl full of cherry or grape tomatoes than any fruit!

I love that your workout includes a little bit of everything... it's a good reminded for me to break it up a little and try new things at the gym... boring as the elliptical can be :-)

My tangents:

-When I'm watching TV I always repeat funny lines out loud. It makes me mad at myself when I do it, but it's a knee-jerk reaction.

-I do accents...Rusian, New York, Chicago, Michigan...My husband and I decided that one night we would go to a restaurant and just speak in an accent all night long. Fun times.

-My old dream job was to be a Criminal Profiler for the FBI. I was in the middle of enlisting in the Air Force (I got my physical and took my ADSVAB test and was just waiting for my date to go to Basic), but my recruiter lost ALL of my paperwork. Not sure how that happens. So, I didn't join, and now I work in TV. Weird. Anyway, my original plan was to join the Air Force Military Police, go to school on the Government dime and head to Quantico, VA to join the FBI. Guess what...Now that's my brother's dream and he'll probably accomplish it since he's a highly decorated combat veteran.

First I thought you were that girl in the beach pic and I was like 'how's that related?' But then I noticed that the blue surf board had a hood on and went AWW.

Also, thank you for an AMAZING blog. :-) you are such an inspiration to me and my running and have really taught that really REALLY great runners don't have to have strict diets and that life's so good.

Your happiness is contagious and I hope you'll keep doing this blog for a long time to come!<3

Greetings from Finland to you and Billy!

Talking about doing something just because someone told you couldn't. When I was pregnant with my second I went into a running store for a fuel belt. I asked the guy who worked there which size I should get because I'm pregnant. He told me I probably wouldn't be able to run that much longer while i was pregnant so not to worry about getting the bigger size. That totally lit a fire under me. I wanted to run up until I delivered just to prove that guy wrong. Sadly, I hurt my hip about half way through the pregnancy and had to stop running.

Men, what does he know about running while pregnant?!
