My tribute to candy.

The only thing that got me out of bed this morning for my pump class was thinking, "I have to get strong so that I can beat my mom in an arm wrestle."

I am not even kidding.  Mis Madre is in her fifties and hasn't done strength training in years and can still beat me in an arm wrestle in a speedy 6 seconds.

I have found plenty of random things to motivate me to get out of bed without being able to run, even if it means that I show to the world once again how I am the weakest girl alive. At least my 3 lb bicep curls from earlier today are going to get me ready for my arm wrestling re-match.  Should I do a Vlog of our re-match?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't worry I still love candy as much as a woman could without making her husband too jealous but I have cut back this last week because I really want to focus on the whole getting a lot of my calories from healthy fats, proteins and whole grains thing.  It sounds boring I know but I guess it will help me get better faster and maybe healthier or something.

So instead of my usual 3 packs of skittles/milky way or swedish fish a day I have cut down to one (okay, sometimes two) and focused on filling up on healthier things.

I don't want to hurt Candies feelings so I decided to do a little tribute just so that my Candy knew deep down that it wasn't them, it was me.  We should only see each other once a day (weekends, holidays, workdays and when I am tired does not count).

Candy,

This is not a goodbye.  I still love you but I think we should see other people too,

Rather than hanging out every 1.4 hours maybe we should just see each other every 12 hours or so.  If it makes you feel any better........when I am not with you, I will be dreaming about you.

I just changed my mind, candy we are staying together but I hope you're okay if I see other 'healthier' foods just as much.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check out my guest post on PBFINGERS!!!!  She is the coolest little thing on the planet:)

You HAVE to go to the AMAZING GIVEAWAY ON RACHELLE'S BLOG....you will fall in love with her and her passion for running!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you were on a desert island for the rest of your life and you could only choose a lifetime supply of chocolatey candy or fruity candy......what would you chose.

-I am going to hurry and type my answer before I regret it......FRUITY!!!!!  (Don't be concerned if you answer differently.  We can still be friends.)

Could you beat your mom/siblings/spouse/bf/children at an arm wrestle?

-My family said I should challenge my nieces but I said I didn't want to break their hands, in reality I was just afraid.

What foods are you focusing on getting MORE of?

-Whole eggs, peanut butter, chicken, greek yogurt, avocado, my vitamins and lots of of fish (mahi, tuna, salmon and of course the small red ones about 3/4ths inches in length that taste like heaven).

I'd go with fruity candy too (sour patch kids count for that, right? lol). I'm trying to incorporate more protein in my diet because I feel like I don't get enough...and never go easy on the veggies!

What is it about moms that they have freakish amounts of strength??? My mom could even beat my brother (who is a giant football playing lineman) at arm wrestling up until recently (when he got HUGE!). She is definitely stronger than me!

Definitely chocolately candy!!

I've been focusing on switching out my staples for healthier options (switching to greek yogurt, whole wheat crackers, etc.).

That last picture of you with the giant bag of gummy bears is too funny. You never fail to amuse. I hope you and candy can work out a healthier relationship.

thank you, janae, for your tribute to candy.

the feelings with which you've expressed your love for it are quite heartwarming, and i'm glad to see you aren't quite abandoning it altogether.

I just found your blog today and already you are my hero. I read this post with Jolly Rancher Awesome Twosomes in my mouth (I begged my little sister for her bag). I ate all of mine yesterday but something miraculous happened this morning. I woke up to find a piece of candy in my bed. It was amazing and I swear I've told everyone that its been the highlight of my day.

Oh Janae, you make my day! That photo of you on the treadmill with the skittles makes me DIE of laughter every time!

YES! do a vlog of the rematch! ha!

I am focusing on centering my meals around veggies. And working on getting more protein from lean meats, but also beans and legumes!

Fruity candy for sure! I tend to get sick of chocolate easier!

Healthy fats and protein - both I need to eat more of, so nut butters, fish, chicken, avacado, beans Greek yogurt - same things as you :)

My arms are the weakest part of my body! I could never win an arm wrestle. I'm sorry that you have to give up on candy, but it's going to make you better remember? Just imagine when you're eating all those healthy fats that you're actually eating sweedish fish.

I would choose dark chocolate, but if it had to be a 'candy" I'd choose fruity.

I like my chocolate straight up, dark, and a little bitter. I do not like chocolate candy at all: Mars, m&m's, Twix, whatever are all kinda yucky to me.

I would have to choose fruity candy. Besides, chocolate would melt on a tropical island. SIlly people who chose chocolate. My mom and I HAVE arm wrestled before and she beat me. Boo. But she's crazy strong and a personal trainer so I can't be too sad.
:)

you're so strong, i'm sure candy is laying in bed with a box of kleenex right now sobbing over the breakup :( i would probably have to pick chocolatey/peanut-buttery candy. i would NEVER win an arm wrestling contest! boyf is unusually strong, even without regular lifting! and i'm trying to eat all of the stuff you are, along with more veggies! especially ones i have never really tried, like cauliflower, beets and brussels! i can't knock em till i try em i guess! :)

I would take donuts over candy, but I do love my bedside drawer full of skittles and reeses.

I thought of you a few weeks ago when swedish fish happened to jump into my oats one morning. I'd have to choose chocolate over fruity candies though.

I would always choose chocolate candy over fruity. Sorry!!

hahah i love all the pics. and YES to a vlog of the rematch!

i think i'd take reece's pb cups. they're the only candy i really REALLY like. i'd rather take ice cream. but it'd melt. come to think of it so would the chocolate. so maybe fruity is the way to go? aaaaaaaaaaaaaah decisions!

I've been focusing on getting more veggies in my daily diet. I've seemed to be lacking on my intake lately so I've been trying to bump it up with lots of salads and such.

But I do heart candy, too :D. Snickers bars will always have a special place in my heart.

That's good because sugar is the DEVIL. :)

It does so many funky things to our body that it should be considered a drug. That doesn't mean I don't cave in to it's oh so sweet temptings now and again, but all in moderation. I'm a new woman I tell ya! No more Friday night candy runs.

Ummm, chocolatey?? Only cuz the island would prolly have real fruit!!?

Gosh, my mom and sis are strong so it'd be close....

I looooooove fruits and veggies and i always wanna eat more so that MUST mean i need it, right?? ;)

Chocolatey for sure! Whatchamacallits are my favorite, followed my Reese's PB Cups, and then Twix.

And you should also let Candy know that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

At May 6, 2011 at 5:18 PM , Blogger Christina @ The Athletarian said...

Um, best post ever. The treadmill photo is amazing.

Choosing between fruity and chocolatey is really difficult. It's pretty equal for me. I love my M and Ms but I also love anything gummy! and sour! bah I hate that I can't answer this!

I cannot beat anyone at an arm wrestle. Maybe we should challenge each other because I think I may actually be weaker than you. My arms are legit strings of spaghetti.

I am looking to get more protein. Eating a mostly vegan diet, it's a bit harder so I'm really trying to focus on some plant-based proteins free of soy. Hemp protein, quinoa, nut butters, and beans are on my list :)

Your tribute brought tears (of laughter) to my eyes…

Chocolate for me…but I would probably OD on it quickly.
I could out arm wrestle my mom and kids but not my husband!
I will be focusing on getting more fish and birthday cake :)

I love you Janae! Such a fun post. Thank you so very much for mentioning my giveaway. I cannot pay you enough swedish fish to make up for all you do for me.

I am trying really hard to get more protein and it is difficult. Hard boiled Eggs and turkey are my favorites! :) Have a great Friday night.

Definitely fruity. I love both so much, but I could eat fruity candy for days... and weeks... and months. Well, you get the picture.

I don't know if I could actually beat anyone in arm wrestling because I have basically the scrawniest arms ever. Though I did have a little "Go, me!" moment yesterday when my husband said he could see more definition in my upper arms. :D

You are so cute with your love for candy! I have never really been a big candy person, but my one weakness was Reese cups, until you introduced me to Swedish fish, they are definitely like a drug, I have a bag at work and at home and sometimes in my purse lol Thank you Janae for my latest addiction!

I broke up with ice cream 2 yrs back, and I never wanted him back.
I need to eat MORE of my real meals. I make such delicious lunches and dinners and then I eat the portion size of an inactive 50 year old. Then I find myself hungry 2 hours later, and don't eat junk, but definitely don;t eat anything as a tasty as what I just made..........dumb.

I would definitely choose chocolatey candy! Today, my co-worker gave me a couple of wrapped milk chocolate truffles and they made my bad day just a bit better :)

You and Shane need to hang out! Shane can't go to bed unless he has had his package of skittles or other sugar rush for the day. It's crazy.

For his graduation present, I gave him the 30 pack of skittles and starbursts package from Costco and he had never been happier in his life!

a) I think I might have found someone who adores candy more than I do. Didn't think it possible! (Actually, I only like candy that is made of chocolate. Oh and Skittles. And Starbursts. And Jelly Bellys. That first statement clearly was a lie.)

b) Those shoes in the supermarket picture--LOVE them. Where did you get them?

I love how much you love candy!!!!!

I arm wrestled my sister last year at her Christmas party and everyone was placing bets. No one bet on her. Needless to say, she lasted baout 3 seconds. She even tried to stand up to get more force...didn't work. :)

Bahaha that picture of you and your armful of candy bags is still my favorite!

I'd definitely choose chocolate. CANNOT live without chocolate.

I'm trying to remind myself to eat at home more, since I know that I'll always cook a healthy meal. But when I go out, I don't always order what's best for my body.

I'd probably be creeped out if I were you.

You are soo adorable my friend!! :)

As much as I love sugar, sugar doesn't have the same adoration for me!! :( I know sad!! It was hard for me to cut back but, now I'm good. I still like to have my treats but, not everyday! So, now sugar and I try to keep a long-distance relationship! But, we are still on good terms!! :)

Def. fruity. I can live without chocolate. I actually prefer white chocolate over milk chocolate!

All of the foods that you're trying to get "more of" are all of my foods that I'm tring to get "more of!!"

Yea...I'm pretty weak when it comes to my upper-body! So, I think my 3y/o could beat me!! :)

"Have a good evening Janae!!" :)

Ok....so i've got a freaky confession. The other night I was reading your blog quite late at night and then when i fell asleep YOU WERE IN MY DREAM!!! We went running and I was so happy because I managed to keep up with you....I think it was because every time I read your blog, i'm always thinking "Dang I wish I could run as fast as that!" :-)

Poor candy :( I had a similar break up years ago- I think it had something to do with eating an entire box of swedish fish- you know the ones from Costco what have 500 in them.. Yeah I ate them in one day. I would choose fruity candy for sure.. So much more variety!

Totally Vlog the rematch- You can take her!

That's a really tough question but I think I would choose chocolate. Maybe we will get stranded together and then we can both have both :-D

I haven't arm wrestled in a long time so I have no clue if I would win.

I'm definitely focusing on getting more veggies into my life. I don't think you can ever have too many veggies.
