Serving Size My Eye.

Really.  2.5 servings.  Pretty funny joke whoever made the food label for my Swedish Fish Easter edition treat.  More like 2.5 bites.  I don't know anyone that could open up that bag and eat 1/2.5 of that bag and save the rest for later.
If you have accomplished eating just one serving at a time of those delicious gummy goodnesses, I think you may be in the running for some sort of world record or something.

IMG 5039
Let me know if you want me to do a vlog about how to make your hair look like you dipped it into the deep fryer, it takes a lot of work to make it look so good.
Ever seen this Brian Reagan clip about food labels. Hilarious.

When I got home from spin Billy was marinating Mahi-Mahi in an amazing sauce.  In the mix was soy sauce, garlic, balsamic vinegar, ginger, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, olive oil, salt and pepper (he eyeballed it, no measurements).
I married this man for a reason.  He knows how to speak to my soul with food.
My 'Love Language' is clearly food.
He pan fried the fish and the rest was magic.  I used the the marinade as a dressing and seriously, it was amazing.  Try it.

IMG 5044

It is completely normal to eat your salad out of a cake pan.   I finished off the meal with pear slices smeared with PB and of course 2.5 servings of Swedish Fish Easter edition.
What serving sizes do you laugh at when you look at its food label and wonder who in the world only eats one serving of that food?
-Most candy, CEREAL, ice cream, popcorn, pringles, nuts, wheat thins and mac and cheese.

Do you ever eyeball recipes and skip the whole 'measuring' thing?
-Yep.  Much too lazy to actually follow a recipe perfect.

What was the last deliciously sweet thing you ate?
-Unless I slept walked during the night and ate some ice cream (this has happened in the past) it was swedish fish and a pear.

Anyone have awesome news to share with me?

I'm loving that you ate out of a cake pan. Cracks me up.

Candy labels should just have the entire container be a serving size. They must know people are going to eat the whole thing. I'm totally the same way about cereal.

I rarely measure when I'm making food. It's way more fun when it's a surprise for your mouth!

The last deliciously sweet thing I ate were black bean brownies. No serving size there baby!

My love language is definitely food and random chores. My bf always pumps my gas for me and I love him more for it! :)

Candy labels are a joke. If you only want me to eat ONE serving, dont put 2.5 in there, gosh.

I'm an eyeballer too when it comes to cooking. I measure when i bake though.

The last deliciously sweet thing I had was a chocolate chip cookie the size of my face. But the cupcake truck is coming to my office today so that will change soon! Woo hoo!

I am ridiculously strict about following recipes. Except mac and cheese. I eat so much of that stuff I could measure out the butter in my sleep!

The last sweet thing I ate was Do'si'dos, the delicious shortbread-y girl scout cookie.

Candy and Ice cream I laugh at. I mean, we have all these science advances, can't someone figure out a way to lower calories in all the sugary, sweet goodness that we love?!?!?!

I measure everything because I am counting calories.

Last sweet thing was a cookies and cream coffee.

Good news! I am hosting my first giveaway over on my blog!! YAY!

I laugh at girl scout cookie serving sizes haha.

My love language is touch. My wife's is gifts. We know this, but neither of us are good at recognizing it haha.

Yeah, I don't measure out recipes at all. too much work, I cook to "taste" not to measuring.

Have an awesome day!

Yes, I'd say that when it comes to cereal, I throw caution to the wind with serving sizes!

That fish looks amazing!

Oh man, cereal serving sizes are definitely a joke!! Oh and ice cream serving sizes. I don't know anyone who is going to eat a 1/2 cup of ice cream and be done. Or 3/4 a cup of cereal. That is not a breakfast!!

I had Georgetown Cupcakes (a local cupcake store that has a show on TLC) last night and they were SOOOO good. I broke down and bought some because I wanted to try their March specialty flavors before they stopped making them in April (Bailey's Irish Creme and Mint Cookies and Cream). Yum!!

I eyeball dinner-type recipes but not baking recipes--I know there is some science behind getting good fluffy bread/dough/etc! I don't want to mess with that!:)

Uhm, the only awesome news I have to share with you is that I still love your blog!! Woo hoo! ;)

I can't believe they consider a 20oz soda to be 2.5 servings. Those bottles are clearly single serve!

I NEVER follow recipe measurements. I always think I can do it better :)

HAHA all this time you've been talking about Swedish Fish, and I've been thinking it's some kind of Scandinavian smoked trout. but it's sweeties!!!

I wouldn't be able to only eat 1/2.5 of that bag either. It's "all or nothing" for this girl. Well, maybe just "all".

Your husband is a legend - that marinade sounds delicious. I eyeball recipes too (because I don't have any measuring implements) and it usually goes wrong. oh to have intuitive cookery skills!

I ate a packet of maoam stripes for my morning snack. (not sure if you guys get them in the US but they are yummy. kind of like chewy starburst)

Cereal, ice cream, cookies, cheese, and chips have to be the craziest serving sizes! Nuts too, 1/4 cup? You've got to be kidding me! I eat them like candy:)

The last awesome sweets that I ate were cookies! This weekend my bf and I had a freezer/refrigerated section cookie showdown (aka we compared 2 of the "best" brands in our opinion). It was gooey, chocolaty, deliciousness. We couldn't decide which one won after the sugar coma set in!

Brian Regan has to be my favorite comedian! I've seen him live 2 times, and both times he was hysterical!!!
The serving sizes that always confuse me are on pancake and waffle mix. Last weekend I made what was supposed to be 3 or 4 servings of a medium sized pancake. was like 2 SMALL servings.

At March 31, 2011 at 7:33 AM , Blogger Angie said...

You are so adorable... I'm with you on the hair in the deep fryer (esp. today)! The serving size of icecream is just plain wrong, along with most crackers, nuts, cereal, pretty much everything you said!

Who ever invented the servign size needs to be slapped. Who eats just a 1/2 a cup or ice cream or 3/4 cup of cereal? And 2T of peanut butter? Seriously? I think I eat 4 in one sitting!

- Nothing new to report

Yeah, pretty much all serving sizes suck.

I don't know why, but I always have to measure a recipe exact. I think it is my type A personality shining through.

There are so many serving sizes I laugh at for instance pop tarts!! Who opens to pouch and only eats one poptart, I mean they are packaged together for a reason! Also muffins! They always say muffins are like 3 servings? Please just tell me what the whole muffin is ha. Ice cream is another for sure!

At March 31, 2011 at 8:16 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

So true, especially candy serving sizes! I always wonder why they sell big bars of dark chocolate, then expect people to only eat a few squares of it! Eyeballing is much easier than following an exact recipe. I only follow recipes exactly for baking.

At March 31, 2011 at 8:17 AM , Blogger Meredith said...

I know!!! Where do they get these serving sizes!!? I'll add peanut butter to that list! 2TBS my foot!! Please! Definitely cereal & granola. I hate those serving sizes.

That bag of swedish fish looks so small. That's just wrong.

I usually only eyeball measurements if I know what I'm doing or just throwing something together. Not if I'm baking though. That could be disastrous!

I had strawberries with sugar free chocolate jello & redi whip. That's me being "good". I would have LOVED a brownie with huge chocolate chips. I would love one right now.

That's funny you ask!!! I have news!!! I just registered for my first full marathon in November. Registration just opened. I am so stinkin excited! I can't contain myself!

Have a great day, girlie!!

My co-workers think I'm crazy because one day I admitted to them that a) I can eat a box of cereal in like 3 days, b) I never eat cereal with milk (glass on the side occasionally), and c) I dip my spoon in peanut butter and then cover it in cereal. If you've never tried this do it NOW because it's like a candy bar on a spoon.

At March 31, 2011 at 8:44 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Cereal, especially granola, is ridiculous. Some are 1/4 cup per serving. I have never eaten 1/4 cup of anything in my life.

mmmm you made me crave sweedish fish. I think I'm on my way to buy some as we speak. I try not to read the labels on gummy goodness. I have a fetish for fruit snacks and it says 4 servings. woops I eat the entire bag.

And I am terrible at following recepies I think that is why I don't bake. You can get away with it when cooking but baking is a whole new story.

Awesome exciting news: I straightened the top layer of my hair this morning. This is big. Have a wonderful Thursday darling girl. :)

I definitely don't follow the servings on brownies! Partially because I just cut a pan of brownies randomly and partially because after I top the brownie with a giant scoop of ice cream, I don't want to know how many calories I'm consuming.

One more time, he might start to wear ear plugs. But, seriously! It's crazy! Biggest eye opener? My chocolate chex. That's my sweet treat at night and I would just eyeball it into one of the kids cups. Thinking it was maybe a cup or 2. But, it's chex! How can it be that bad??? Yeah. Over 500 calories later. Yeah. Its THAT bad!! Now, I stick to the little bit they call 2 servings for 260. Yep. That's what I use my end of the day calories on. That and an oh-so-sweet apple.

The #1 for me is ice cream! 1/2 cup?! I don't think so. Half a bucket, MUCH more accurate!

Last night I grabbed a spoon and Nutella--of course, I double-dipped! ;)

I have heard of salad bowls, but not salad pans--ha ha!!! you are too funny! Is the term love language from the book "Love and Respect"? We used that for pre-marriage counseling.

3) the comment about cereal and pb on a spoon- everyone needs to please try the following: spoonful of pb dipped in Honey Bunches of Oats= tastes like a samoa- so so good

However, this technique is part of why I suck at baking. I have learned that with baking, you DO have to measure... but somehow, my stuff still doesn't come out very good. Sigh.
