Burgers and 45 Minutes

Good news team.  I was bumped up to 45 minutes on the elliptical.  Better believe I will be smiling away on that big piece of silver machinery this morning as I watch Saved By The Bell and listen to ET by Katy Pery.

Next thing you know it, I will be able to share with you my good ol' sweaty beast pictures after a hard run again. Until then I will give you a recycled 'Janae you need to take a shower because you smell really bad' picture.

IMG 0035

Being the dare-devel that I am, I got something NEW at Costco yesterday.

I am that person that gets the SAME thing every time at the store and today I ventured to a new territory.

Wait for it, wait for it........instead of buying frozen Tilapia fillets, I bought frozen Mahi-Mahi fillets.  I know, I really took a risk with this one.  Next thing you know I will buy brussel sprouts instead of broccoli and romaine instead of spinach (okay, that is a lie.....I could never leave my beloved broccoli and spinach).

Photo 8

As we were walking into Costco a lady drove by and rudly ate a ginormous greasy burger right in front of me as I was standing there starving. How dare she enjoy her beautiful burger when she knew all I could think about was getting home and eating dinner.  I mean it had been at least 90 minutes since my egg sandwich.

I couldn't get her burger off my mind, I even hinted to Billy that we should go to 5 Guys for dinner (I don't think he caught on, either that or he didn't hear what I was saying because the 3D tv's on display at Costco were calling his name).

instead I made a mahi-mahi burger at home and I guarantee it was better than car-driving-eating-delicious-burger ladies meal.

IMG 5037

I grilled the fish on the george foreman and topped it with a sweet-terryaki sauce, lettuce and pineapple, I was feeling tropical.  I also toasted the buns which is key to burger success.  I had a can of green beans on the side and closed my eyes as I ate them and pretended like they were 5 Guys cajun spiced french fries.  I guess my arteries and my bank account are thanking Billy for skipping the fast food last night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What was the last NEW to you food that you bought at the grocery store?

-Mahi-mahi

What are your favorite 'burger' toppings?

-Not together: pineapple, grilled onions/mushrooms/pepper, melty cheese, juicy tomatoes.....okay, I could go on forever.

What kitchen appliance do you use the most in your kitchen?

-My George Foreman grill is getting some good use lately.  I also use the oven a lot to roast my veggies.

What running shoes are you using lately?

-I am thinking I am going to get the Saucony Kinvara's next, I guess this means that I need to put some miles on the pairs that I have right now:)

So I started recently buying freeze dried fruit and it is AMAZING. I am in love.

Lettuce, Tomatoes, Mustard, Dill Pickles, Cucumbers, grilled onions, mushrooms.

Crock pot wins it all. It's too easy for crazy weeks!

I love 5 Guys! I have to get the cajun seasoning on the side since I'm the only one in my family that likes it. I took the rest home and the next time I roasted chickpeas I put it on them and they were sooooo good even better than 5 Guys fries. It's also good on parsnip fries-peel and cut parsnips into fry shapes, drizzle with olive oil and cajun seasoning and bake at 350 until crispy.

I do the exact same thing at the grocey. My list rarely ever changes. Though, this week, I swapped out my normal yogurt for greek and my normal oatmeal packets for a giant thing of oats to make my own (gasp!).

I don't really eat burgers, but when I have a veggie burger I like to throw a fried egg, tomato, and cheese on top.

My shoes are brooks adrenaline. I really really like them!

Yay for getting to do 45 minutes on the elliptical!

Havent tried anything new at the grocery store recently. I need to change that!

I put mustard (which I just discovered last year, I am late to the party), tomatoes, onions, pickles, and lettuce on my veggie burgers. Very tasty!

My blender is getting the most use in my kitchen. I dream of having a fancy blender one day.

I am still running in my Mizuno Wave Riders but I will be making the switch to Newtons soon!

Havent tried a G. Foreman grill but I have always been curious. So far I have been successful at convincing the hubby to go grill in the snow and rain...or I just bake. Most used kitchen appliance would be the oven. I love roasted veggies!

Running shoes = Nike Pegasus

Most used appliance? The stove

I use Nike free, but may be going back to the gorilla feet

Yay for the elliptical!!

I have run in the Brooks Glycerin for years now...I love them. They just keep slightly changing the model, but I keep staying injury-free so it works :)

I just ordered the Kinvara's! I am hoping and praying they come by Thursday so that I can try them out before my race on Sunday...7 oz versus my 10 oz shoes now will make a BIG difference! I'm hoping that my midfoot gait will make it easier to switch. I use the crockpot in spurts.

OK, lets see, favorite burger topping. I grill my burger and then I put it on one of those wheat thin bread thingys, after it's cooked I add jalapenos, then melt American cheese on top of that and then add Red Hot sauce to it. OUT OF THIS WORLD! eat it with a pickle and it makes it better!

I've switched to running in my Vibrams. Next race...barefoot!! Seriously! I did my first blog on it yesterday! I'm either crazy OR onto something great. We'll see :)

You're cool!

Favorite burger toppings are grilled mushrooms and onions. I can't get enough of them! I've never even though of trying pineapple, but once I do, I'm sure it'll be on my list.

My offee maker, George Foreman and blender always get a workout around here.

I run in Vibram Five Fingers & I love 'em!

I just had a Mahi-Mahi sandwich at Hooters on Friday... it was my splurge meal of the week! Yeah, I don't buy much new @ the grocery store. Maybe you'll convince me to shop outside the box. I love pepper jack cheese on my burger! I definitely use the microwave the most, followed by the coffee maker. I'm running in my Asics, as usual.

1. I can't remember the last time I got something totally new at the grocery store. Not because I'm not adventurous, but because I'm so adventurous that I think there is very little I haven't tried!

2. Same toppings as you (not together), except for the cheese - I don't think cheeseburgers are good enough to be worth the extra calories. OH, but the "smokehouse" burger at Johnny Rockets are delicious (bacon, onion rings, barbecue sauce, and Tillamook cheddar). Oh, and I'm also up for BLUE CHEESE or brie on a burger. Okay, I take the cheese comment back :)

3. I use my George Foreman a TON - it is pretty awesome for ANY kind of meat or fish. I also make yummy grilled dessert sandwiches with wheat bread, Nutella, and sliced bananas - SO GOOD. Otherwise, I guess I would just pick my salad spinner (does that count as an appliance? It's a tool, at least).

4. I like the Asics GT-21xx series (2110s, 2120s, etc - they keep changing it each year).

Mahi Mahi scares me. When I was in culinary school my fish teacher told us that it feeds off the bottom of the ocean and is prone to catching more diseases this way, so I have had a fear of mahi for years.

My hubs sometimes ignores my annoying comments about how we should stop at random places for ice cream or custard or frozen yogurt, I think that he thinks I have the mentality of a child sometimes cause all I can think about is frozen desserts covered in caramel and gummies.

My new food item would be those small yellow mangoes (what are they called?!). They are delicious!

My favorite burger toppings are (not together) BBQ sauce, gorgonzola, bacon, bell peppers, chipotle chili powder.

If I had a George Foreman, it'd definitely be my favorite appliance but our kitchen is super small so I'm going to have to say....my blender/food processor. It's an awesome multi-purpose machine that keeps me happy with smoothies!

Today I did the ArcTrainer in Merrells which felt great. Maybe I should give up regular running shoes for those? ha!

That burger looks good! I wish I could get more risky with the foods I make. You will be proud though... I've had broccoli THREE times in the past week. I thought I hated broccoli but I was wrong! I even made it for myself last night!!! I'm growing up!

Most used appliance... I guess the toaster oven for bread and english muffins. Lame. I should bust out our George Forman.

I'm trying to cut back on animal products, so I finally broke down and bought some tofu last weekend. First time ever. I used it to make a tofu scramble with sauteed onions and bell peppers with soy sauce, and it was deeeeeeeeeelicious.

I put a little bit of everything on my burgers...mustard, onion, pickle, tomato, lettuce. Nothing exotic. Just your plain ol' run-of-the-mill burger toppings.

I'm still kicking it in my Mizuno Wave Rider 13s because I've been able to get good deals on them since their 14s came out, but I think everyone has finally sold out of them. I'll be needing a new pair soon, and I can't decide if I want to stick with the same shoe in the 14 model or try something else. I'm thinking I might try the Brooks Ghost 3s.

Kale and Chia seeds are new for me and I love 'em! I will eat anything on a burger, but I don't eat beef so it's got to be a turkey burger. Most used kitchen items...food processor, the blender and my cast iron grill pan.

We're shoe twins! Mizuno Wave Riders (just bought the 14's yesterday) and Saucony Kinvaras. I use the Kinvaras for cross-training and track workouts. Not sure if I would like them for a longer run.

NEW Foods - believe it or not...spinach and hummus! I know, I'm late to the party!

For burger toppings I prefer just cheese, lettuce and lotsss of BBQ sauce.

Kitchen appliance - my small non stick pan(does that count? Haha) or my blender, if we're talkin' real appliances.

As for running shoes, I've never actually bought a GOOD pair - I need some badly! Any suggestions??

I stick with my saucony progrid guide 3's. they have worked the best for a while now. But I want something faster... more race-type shoe. I have no clue what to get though. I think that calls for a trip to the running store!! HA HA!

I've been sending good thoughts your way and home your leg heals soon. I can't wait to see you rock it at Boston. No matter if you beat your goal of a sub-3 or not, you are an inspiration. I can't even imagine running as fast and as far as you do. You are a rock star.

The last time I went to Costco, I was starving & picked up a few new items, which is rare for me. I usually have a strict list. I picked up spinach potato pancakes? Kind of like latkes, I guess. I haven't tried them, but I'm looking forward to making them for breakfast.

And, now I might be trying that MahiMahi - looks yum!

With burgers, I love: cheese, tomatoes, & mustard. Other things are optional (pickles, lettuce), but I have to have the main three. I once had a brie burger, & it changed my life. So, very, freakin, good.

I'm currently wearing Asics Gel Kayanos (I think?), because I'm a total beginner & they're what I had in my closet. :-)

To be honest, your fish burger looks almost as good as a big juicy hamburger! I did't like mahi mahi as well as tilapia. What did you think?
I'm glad your elliptical time was upped although you're doing great keeping that cardio up!
Love ya!

It's the weirdest thing - I've been using different running shoes lately when I used to swear I'd only wear Adidas for the rest of my life. Now I don't even have a pair :(

I bought frozen mahi mahi filets last Friday!! I fixed them for dinner Monday night with pineapple salsa.

Favorite burger toppings? I like the following (not necessarily all together) - avocado, mushrooms, any kind of cheese, tomatoes.

Kitchen appliance: Handheld immersion blender for for fruit/yogurt smoothies at least a couple times a week. Coffeemaker. Our new toaster oven is getting a lot of use too.

Current shoes: Asics GT 2150

New food: A few, lately, because of the clean/vegan eating I was/have been doing. Almond milk, blue agave nectar, just to name a couple. I've also tried recipes I've never had before with this challenge.

Current shoes: Brooks Ravenna

Enjoy the longer elliptical time. Your focus and attitude and perseverence through this injury are amazing. :)

That mahi burger looks delicious! I love the photos you get cruising around Costco. They must love you there!!! =D

Funny you should ask about shoes....I just got re-analyzed (a little late) and was told I am a neutral (guess I don't over-pronate anymore....wierd) and ended up getting a pair of Brooks Ghost III.
