German Taco Salad

There was another birthday at the Anderson Family Sunday Dinner.  I bet you feel like there is a birthday every week with my family and that is because there is but I will not complain about having to sing the birthday song 3 times in one night, eat birthday cake and of course birthday spankings on a weekly basis.

IMG_4580.JPG

For dinner we had taco's but I turned my taco into a salad by adding a lb. of spinach.  There is a tortilla somewhere in there.

IMG_4572.jpg

We got some cheese, sour cream, guac, salsa, black beans, corn, carrots, ground beef and tortilla going on in that salad.

IMG_4574.JPG

The birthday boy chose German Chocolate cake for his birthday. Not my favorite but I wasn't about to turn it down.

IMG_4590.JPG

We gave my bro-in-law his favorite drink as part of his present and somehow the little one got it for her first time.  Um, she cried when it was gone and went searching the house for more.  I am sorry if the below picture offends some people as child abuse but it was really funny to see her chug it down.

Monday=Speed Workout on the Track.  I texted my coach last night asking if I should do it on the treadmill because of the rain.  He texted back, "track workouts in bad weather are good for you." Dang it.  I guess getting out of my COMFORT ZONE is going to make me STRONGER and how hardcore is it to get back from a hard workout drenched from the rain, Billy won't be able to stay away from me:)

We ended up going over to my coaches house last night to eat his crack popcorn (yes, that is an empty bowl in my hands, oops), work with the pace calculator and plan out races for after Boston.  Get excited, it is going to be a rocking year in the hungryrunnergirl (and now boy) household.

Have the BEST Monday EVER!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you have soda in your house when you were growing up?

-We NEVER had it around the house growing up but once I became a waitress and it was free.....I was hooked.  Now I just have to keep it out of sight, out of mind......

What workout gets you out of your COMFORT ZONE?

-Speed work and running in bad weather.

Do you like popcorn or kettle corn better?

-Usually kettle corn but whatever they put into the popcorn last night was addicting.

What is your favorite part of a taco salad?

-The tortilla, after I smear the guac all over it.

We usually have soda around the house, but any more...I don't drink very much of it.
I loove putting salsa in my taco salads...especially peach or pineapple salsa! So, so good! =D Tortilla chips are yummy in the salad too!

We never had soda in my house when I was growing up...the bad kids at school introduced me to it...haha!
Speedwork & tempos make me pretty uncomfortable!
I am mostly a kettle corn girl and I love salsa!

I didn't grow up with soda, and I still am not a fan. But it's fine by me, I love me some water!

That taco salad looked DELISH!

your coach is going to be the best thing to happen to your running since sour patch kids were manufactured in costco sized packaging.

You have to train (especially track style) in hard workouts if you want to excel on race day! I love that he's helping you make even more magic happen with your running! Can't wait to see what is brewing for after Boston!!!

Getting out on my bike in the rain is something I avoid at all costs and then last year I woke up to a DOWNPOUR on a triathlon morning. This year I WILL ride in the rain so I'm ready for it!

And taco salad? the guac + cheese is impossible to choose between.

Awesome job running in the run! I actually like running in the summer rain when it's warm rain.
We didn't have much soda when I was younger, but my aunt fed my sister coke & candy when she was 6 months old because it was the only food she had on her while babysitting once. Apparently, my mom freaked out.
Guac is my favorite!

I loved soda growing up and I still do...I do try to limit it as much as possible though.

My favorite part of a taco salad is the sour cream...I have weakness for sour cream :)

I LOVE taco salad. I'm not a huge fan of salad in general, but throw on beans, cheese, and salsa and I'm sold!

We weren't ever allowed to have soda when we were kids either. It's funny how you got hooked cause my mom worked at a pharmacy in HS where it was free for her and that's how she got hooked too! She gave it up cold turkey last year.

My mom was obsessed with soda so we always had tons around. I really try hard to limit myself on it now.
Kettle corn all the way!
The salad looks so yummy!!! I really want one!

Fun pictures! Sounds like you and your family have a good time together!! Good luck at your workout today!

We always had soda growing up but were only allowed to drink it on weekends but as I got older I would sneak it! But I have successfully gone without caffeine for over a month now and I love it! Any speed workout gets me out of my comfort zone. They are my least favorite. I like kettlecorn usually but caramel corn is my absolute favorite! My favorite part of taco salad is the cheese!!!

We NEVER had soda in the house (and still don't). I think my brothers and sisters and I would live for birthday parties because that's when we would get it. And by bday parties, I mean others, not ours. We got juicy juice on ours. We thought soda was the elixir of life!

im a total wuss so bad weather gets me out of my comfort zone!

that popcorn with melted white chocolate on it? I could eat nothing but that for the rest of my LIFE.

fav part of taco salad: GUACAMOLE!!!! or anything with avocados

Whenever I have the urge to run inside in bad weather, I think to myself "what if it's raining on race day?" and that always gets me outside! Don't get me wrong, sometimes I totally resort to the treadmill, but I try not to always do that. It is definitely important to train in all conditions. I hope your track workout goes well!

we never had soda at my house but my grandpa had (and still has) a stash that he keeps in a cupboard in the garage because if there's ever a sale he buys a ton of it.
I went through a grape soda phase in junior high (bleh) and always wondered how my mom knew I'd had one...(yeah, wasn't too bright)

I am totally a kettle corn person but some kinds of savory popcorn I just can't get enough of.

Excited to hear about all your future runs! (and anything else you share here...love your blog!)

Omgzzzz girl I love taco salad! Agreed, guac+ tortilla = happy belly:) Running outside, especially in crazy ass wind, takes me way out of my comfort zone. I was so sore afterwards!

Kettle corn allll the way! And we never ever had soda in the house, but whenever I was at a friends house and could get some I would take full advantage:)

I did drink soda growing up. My parents didn't dictate what I could or couldn't eat as a kid. That's why I was fat. I don't drink it now.

Your taco salad looks just like mine! Except I don't ever even bother with a tortilla.

Love me some kettle corn!

Happy Monday Love!!

I love German Chocolate Cake! I was born in Germany (I'm an Army Brat) and have an obsession with all things that remind me of growing up there.
I did not have soda in my house and even now, I'm not too crazy about it. I only drink it at In-n-Out...strawberry lemonade w/sprite!

I LOOOOOVE Kettle Corn!! I hate when people want to share with me because I want to hog it all..is that mean?

Best part of taco salad is the avacado...and sour cream! NOM NOM!

it's funny, i remember one workout in high school where we had to run to the local college to use their all weather track, then it was pouring, flooding on the track and my coach was yelling at us to suck it up and finish what we needed. then there was the cool down home, on the streets then onto the fields behind the hs. hardest speed workout in the bad weather ever...unless you count the long runs in the hail...that hurts. bad. haha!

love the guac for taco salad!

fresh kettle corn is the best. from the farmers market. so tasty!

We never had soda!! It was a special treat that we rarely had. I do drink diet coke now, but not that often. And my kids now don't get soda, either. I know, mean mom!! LOVE Kettle corn! Especially fresh and hot at our local farm. They have a stand on the weekends during the summer when it's super busy and i can smell it all the way at my house. Well, maybe not...but I love it!

My dad always drank Pepsi and that's what was in the fridge, I would drink it occasionally.

I have to agree with Speed work being out of the comfort zone.

I don't really like popcorn or kettle corn.

Guac is my favorite part of a taco salad and cilantro.

Growing up soda was always in the house. As a mom, I have vowed to keep it out of the house and away from my kids except for birthday parties or special occassions. Myself, I am totally hooked and indulge on one soda a day at work. Soo bad!

Pop (a.k.a. "soda"--ha, ha, I'm from Minnesota originally) was a special treat in our house, and I never buy any for my husband and I now.

We never had soda. The only time I've even liked soda was during college when I used diet coke for the caffeine. Since then, don't touch the stuff. I always wonder if there's a correlation between not having it growing up and not caring for it now?

I love both regular and kettle popcorn, and coated in lots of butter! I eat a whole bowl to myself too, bc my boyfriend isn't as much a fan (ya, he's weird!).

So true about the workout in the rain, it'll prepare you for whatever weather comes on race day! I did a long run in the rain once, and it was actually pretty fun! I felt so hardcore!!

Thanks for you comment on my blog, you always me smile!!

Popcorn: air popped popcorn with tons of butter and white cheddar powder :)Y-U-M

Growing up, soda was allowed on a weekly basis...typically while watching TGIF! My fave was the caffeine free (Mom's rules) strawberry soda. It may sound weird, but it's fab.

Have a good day!

Did you have soda in your house when you were growing up?

--NOPE. We didn't have any sugary extras. But, we were super poor, so we barely had enough normal food.

What workout gets you out of your COMFORT ZONE?

-Anything timed. As soon as the clock starts, I am busting my ass trying to beat my imaginary competitors.

Do you like popcorn or kettle corn better?

-Popcorn. I like to put weird savory things on it, like brewer's yeast.

What is your favorite part of a taco salad?

--BEANS. I love beans.

Love the pics in this post - hilarious about the coke bottle. We never had coke growing up. 7-Up every once in a while, but I never acquired a taste for it and still don't like it much. Group workout classes almost always take me out of my comfort zone - even yoga at times. I'm going to try Cross-Fit in the next week or so and I know that will be a big challenge for me. My taco salads must have guacamole!

My mom never restricted the food or drinks that we had in the house. We always had soda, treats, ice cream, and other goodies in the house. I think that because things were never restricted, I never felt like I had to overdo it at parties or when I was going on a trip. yes, my parents would make us eat our fruits and veggies, but never said we had to finish it all to have dessert and I greatly appreciate it! :)
