Billy Wins Husband of the Year

I am too excited to even type this so I might make a lot of spelling and grammer errors.

Billy gave me an early Christmas gift.

Here's the story:

I went to the gym by my lonesome and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and jumped onto the stair climber.

22 minutes into my climbing of stairs I felt someone grab my butt!! I freaked out and almost fell off the darn thing.

IT WAS BILLY!

You have to understand, Billy has a six pack and couldn't gain weight if he wanted too.  He rock climbs and plays baseball for exercise.  The gym really isn't his thing.

I was so excited to see him.  I quickly asked him if he was going to lift and if he could teach me some things.

He said, "No, I think I am going to run."

I didn't want him to change his mind so I rushed over and saved two treadmills next to each other.

photo-3.jpg

We got on treadmills next to each other and I seriously felt like I was on crack.

Running plus my bff next to me.  Bliss.

He kept going and going.....I was amazed that he could do so much and so fast (he was going 8.3 mph)

He looked over at me and said, "Merry Christmas. I have been running for about a month in the mornings so that I can start running with you."

My bladder was empty but I would have peed if it wasn't.

5 miles.

There really is not one thing that I would rather have than to be able to RUN and with my BILLSTER.

This is a huge deal and I think I will be talking about it for the next 28 posts so get used to it.

Best. Present. Ever.

To repay him I went to in-n-out with him for lunch.

Got the veggie sandwich, they treated me right and piled it with veggies and the grilled onions were amazing.

I ate every single one of those french fries.

Does your significant other workout with you?  What do they do for exercise?

What is the best present you have ever gotten?

-Besides my engagement ring I am going to have to say this:)

AWWWWWWWWW! That's awesome!

I do workout with my hubby - we run, bike and swim together. We do alone workouts too, but I would say that 85% of our workouts are together!

Best present ever??? Yikes... that's a hard one!

That is a really sweet gift...and especially since he planned it in advance and then practiced so he could keep up with you. I agree. Best present ever. I always said I would want my boyfriend to propose to me on a run but if he ever suggested a run i would totally know something was up! One time for my birthday he rode his bike while I ran outside :)

How cute! My husband and I do run together - usually just on the weekends. He's a teacher, too, so he's running with me while on break. Yay!

Best gift? It was from my husband - he got me Manolo Blahniks. I almost collapsed I was so excited.

Have a merry Christmas!

Oh my GOSH! I am freaking out for you. Seriously that is so sweet and thoughtful of him! High five, Billy!

Sometimes Jordan and I go to the gym together, but he lifts while I run. He agreed to run my next half with me, but said, "Uh... are you going to want me to stay with you the whole time?" I run at a snail's pace! Ha!

At December 22, 2010 at 3:49 PM , Blogger Unknown said...

That may be the SWEETEST and most sincere gift I have ever heard of. He went out of his way for an entire month to build up his endurance AND keep it all secret so that he could surprise you. WOW! He does get HUSBAND OF THE YEAR! I have to share this story with friends.

My partner and I are also running partners. our paces are the same so that makes it very convenient. :) It is nice to have the love of your life by your side when you're running for severals hours straight, or even just for a jog. It means a lot.

YAY FOR BILLY!! What an awesome gift! He obviously sees how passionate you are about running!

I don't think there is a better activity than training with your spouse. Spencer and I high five after our work outs now!!

First, I love the fact you got someone to photograph the moment! So cute!

If this happened to me I would have fallen off the treadmill and sat on the floor in a puddle of happy tears! I've had an overly emotional day (for no reason, what the frick?) and this got me all teary again!

That is so insanely sweet and adorable that he surprised you with the run! He is a keeper! :)

I LOVE THAT. Ken and I have been married for almost 16 years. We have always shared our passions for cycling and now running. I swear it's been the best thing ever for our marriage. We might have different paces and goals, but we find time to train together. He really "gets" me. I LOVE that billy has been getting up so that he could run with you. I think the best way someone shows us how they care is when they take an interest in what we're doing. He's a keeper.

Wow, he really does deserve an award!! Great present.

My husband and I run together in the summer, in the winter when we're treadmilling, it doesn't really work out, but I LOVE running with him outdoors. I love running with a buddy and running with him makes it that much more fun. I'm super psyched for you guys!

The best present I've ever gotten was probably my kitchenaid mixer of my nook, could be a tie. Both were from my absolute favorite aunt. I love baking and reading, you really can't go wrong!

At December 22, 2010 at 3:58 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Adoooooooooooorable! Steve comes to the gym with me when he can, but usually does weights while I am the cardio queen... when he does run with me I have to run twice as fast to make up for the fact that his legs are probably twice as long!

Ah, what a great gift for Christmas!!! Now I'm sure the gym will be even more fun!!!

My husband played football at BYU so running wasn't really his thing. He likes to throw weights around:) But after his last season I convinced him to do a ragnar relay with me. We trained together for 6 months and it was so. much. fun!

What a sweet hubs you have! Best gift ever for sure!

This post genuinely made me quite tearful - you have such a beautiful relationship with Billy and this just emphasises to me how empty my life is without a 'Billy' of my own! Heck, I'd love anyone to run with me...a German Shepherd dog would do ;)

Brian does not like to run but he has done a few 5ks with me. I would love to have him want to run with me but he is a swimmer at heart. That is so sweet of Billy! What a great gift. Once I read this post I actually reread it to Brian in hopes that it would give him an idea but he just said "oh". You are one lucky girl!! I think the best present I gave received was my engagement ring too plus the scrapbook Brian made me where he asked me to marry him in the last page.

Awww that is awesome!!! Matt and I have run together sporadically, when Nolan was younger we used to run with him in the jogging stroller (I miss those little family runs :( )

Right now Matt is swamped with work and gets a little down that he doesn't have time/energy to workout much, but I've shown him how to do Tabata kettlebell workouts so at least he is doing something.

Best present~ My "Believe in Yourself" bracelet from Nolan :D

That is the SWEETEST gift ever! What a great guy! I love that he surprised you and has been doing it on your own. That actually means that he took TIME. I love it. Good job Billy.

My SO has worked out with me a couple of times but doesn't on a regular basis. I've asked many times but I don't want to push the issue.

The best gift ever... hmm... that's tough. I think I will have to go with my engagement ring. It was clearly thought out and very sweet.

But I'm thankful for him anyway for watching our little one so I can run. :)

That is just so cool. Merry early Christmas to you!!

My husband plays hockey and lifts weights. He runs a little bit but it's not really his thing. He was super awesome about giving me some company on portions of my long runs last winter though! We are both planning on Boston 2012 so we'll actually train together quite a bit.

Man-that was really so sweet! Billy is definitely a keeper:)

That is so sweet, and what a way to surprise you like that! My boyfriend doesn't run or do yoga, but we go snowboarding together all the time! It's fun to snowboard together and race each other with the prize being a back massage!

My husband and I used to train for our annual 25k race together. We'd always "go for runs together" but what that means is we'd start at the same place but he'd run faster and longer than I did. We'd end up at the same place but he would have already cooled down, stretch, worked on his core and did push-ups.

P.S. I LOVE that you had someone take a picture on the treadmill. I hope it was someone completely random.

How great is that? AWESOME!!!

My husband and I used to work out together... mostly running or yoga. But now we have to tag-team the kids... sitters are too pricey. I miss working out with him.

Best present I ever got was finding out I was pregnant with my oldest.

We can't work out together unless my parents watch our kids. My husband will go with me on short runs, but he usually heads back to the house after 2 miles. We take turns going to the gym and sometimes we do p90x together. I have running buddies, so it doesn't bother me that he doesn't share my running goals. A very thoughtful gift! The best gifts come from the heart.

Brent and I are actually on the same adventure racing team, so we train together a fair bit and race together regularly. I was pretty intimidated by the prospect at first, but now I love it. There's no one with whom I'd rather spend 12 (or 24, or 72) hours running around in the woods :)

Oh, and best present? Last year for Christmas, Brent made me a book of all of my blog entries (and thus all of our adventures) from the year. My husband and I dont typically workout together. We belong to seperate gyms - I go to a regular normal gym and he goes to a mixed martial arts gym.

This past Oct I ran my first half marathon. My wonderful hubby told me I inspired him and he agree that in March when I run my first FULL marathon he would run the half. He is typically a 3 mile max kind of runner so we have been taking a few runs together... love it!

My favorite gift, besides my engagement ring? Probably when Shane took me on a romantic long weekend trip to Maui for my birthday last year. It was amazing, and so sweet. He's definitely way more romantic than me.

AwEsOmE! That is a great gift!
I got Doug to run a 1/2 relay with me... he said he was bored, lol, and that he will only run again if he can run next to me... I, however, thought the relay thing was a blast!

What a great gift! That's so sweet! Yes, my husband and I work out together. We don't necessarily stay together when we run/walk as he just runs, but he make an effort to make sure we go together.

I just found your blog yesterday and have to say that I almost teared up reading this post. How sweet of your hubs to secretly run just so he could surprise you and run with you. That is like the sweetest thing ever!

Aw! I love this! You have one AMAZING husband, lucky girl. :) My boyfriend doesn't workout with me. Bummer. I wish he would. Right now he doesn't have much time to exercise, but he wants to. I think we have different taste in exercise though. So, it's difficult to do things together. But, we have ran on the beach 2 times together at night in North Carolina, we've ran around town once, and he said he would do yoga with me sometimes. So, that's a start!

That is awesome!!! My bf started running with me about a year ago and I love it. We ran our first half marathon together in Las Vegas this month and it was seriously one of the best things ever. I know how you feel and it is awesome to have your lovey do something with you that you love.

That picture is the best!!! Is that a friend of yours or just some random gym guy? =)
Hubby runs with me occasionally on the weekends-and like your hubby, he is already super fit.
The first time he ran w/ me was for a 5K race in October. I tore it up at 27:30 (a PR for me at that time) and he acted like it was BARELY a jog for him-sickening I tell ya. He has also gone an an 8mi and 10mi long run with me. Occasionally he runs way ahead of me and then waits for me to catch up as my slow pace ACTUALLY makes his hips ache! GAHHH!!!
But at least he's there with me and someday, SOMEDAY I will work down from my 9:30-10:30 miles to a pace that we can BOTH feel comfy at =)
Way to go, Bill =)

That is the best gift ever! And I had no idea you could get a veggie option at in-n-out! I've never been to one, but that will have to change pronto.

My husband HATES running more than Police Academy sequels, so I'll usually do weights with him at the gym. We go to a personal trainer together too.

Best present: VHS player from my brother when I was 13. I was in HEAVEN until I burned that thing out.

That is so incredibly awesome! I am so happy for you and Billy - how thoughtful of him! I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you both! And (I just read your most recent post) if your family is every looking for another child to adopt, can I be first on the list?! Thanks a million! ;)

ummmm, that's totally cause for the husband of the year award!!! mr. dawn tried to do that two separate times, but ended up hating running even more by the end of it, so he would just tell me about it with a defeated look on his face....
