Hugs Not Drugs.

I am blown away by the support and love that each of you gave me. Between the comments, emails, tweets and texts I feel like the luckiest gimp around.

Thank you all for being my best friends and sticking with me and my weird self.

Tonight's post will be short because I am off to spend some more time with la familia but I will have a detailed post of today's ice cream binge in the morning.

As you know my choice of drugs has been the endorphins that I get from running.

I realized today that hugs give me that same effect.

Wedding 6324

Nothing is better than a nice tight squeeze from a loved one.

For every mile that I wish I was running that day I will give that many people a hug.  So, if you are weirded out by me then don't plan on seeing me on my scheduled long run day and stay far away from me on April 18th:)

IMG 0020

If you see me in real life please give me a hug (unless you are a creeper mmkkay).  Virtual hugs count too.....just send me a picture of you hugging someone or yourself and I will hug myself when I open the email and it will be the same thing as a real life hug.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who was the last person you hugged?  Are you a hugger?

What are you having for dinner tonight?

-Soup and salad from Kneader's wahoo.....first real food of the day other than ice cream.

AM I A HUGGER! I have been known to wake my best friend (and roommate, but there was once a time when that wasn't the case and she lived ALL THE WAY ON THE 4TH FLOOR OF THE DORM! [I lived on the 3rd]) at 3 a.m. because "I was feeling like I needed a hug." She's on the market for a new bff.

The last person I hugged was my daughter. When I picked her up from school today, she just looked so huggable. It's standardized testing week at their school, and being a 2nd grader, this was her first time sitting for three hours of testing. I'm not usually a hugger, but my girls get lots of them. I guess that makes up for everyone else!

Dinner tonight: My husband made a fantastic meal of angel hair pasta with sausage. We will, of course, also fill up on lots of veggies!

I wanted to comment on the last post but didn't get the chance, so I will post my thought on it here --- I LOVE your blog and your running stories are only a small reason why! You are hilarious, entertaining, and just very fun to "read" about, so please don't think that being unable to run right now and missing Boston makes you less interesting to us readers!! Running is only one part of who you are, and we all love the rest too! ;)

GREAT idea with the hugs. I'm huggy even though I'm not an overly affectionate person.

Dinner tonight is leftovers. BUT leftovers are good: Risotto with fresh grape tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Yum.

Funny, the last person I gave a hug today was Tall Mom b/c I dropped something off for her at her office on my way home. I didn't get a hug from my toddler while picking him up from day care because he was mad at me for making him leave. Awesome.

Tonight I was thinking....something is missing....and I realized I hadn't checked your blog all day! Made my night to come here and have 2 posts to read! You are a beautiful person inside and out and are blessed with a wonderful family...so sorry to hear of your injury, i overcame a torn hip flexor last during training for the Chicago marathon...i was not 100% for the race but ran anyway because i had a charity committment and it was sooooo painful...i did not run for month after! But our God is an awesome God and he heals his children...i will keep you in my prayers, you will get through it...and i agree that you should switch your plane tickets, i have heard that NYV is a great marathon to run! I couldn't run all of January or February because of the same problem. It was deep in my leg and I was getting so frustrated because no one could tell me what was wrong, going back and forth between a bad muscle pull and a femoral stress fracture. Luckily I had a bone scan that didn't show any fracture (I think it might have been there tho...) but it showed low bone density in my spine and an underlying severe vitamin D and calcium deficiency. Something I probably wouldn't have found out until it was too late to treat! So something good can come out of it.

Also when I was out of it and miserable every day I couldn't go out and run I read your blog. And even though I was jealous I couldn't be running like you it still made me happy and feel like I was a part of running, even though I wasn't doing it myself. You made me laugh and realize that this too shall pass and everything will be ok in the end. I'm now up to almost 20 miles a week (going slooowwww) but I feel stronger every time I run.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you, and don't worry, it will be ok =)

At April 12, 2011 at 8:17 PM , Blogger Tiffany said...

So sorry about the stress fracture, that is heart-wrenching, especially after all the hard work and training you've done. But, like your brother said, "Boston is going to have a race again next year!" and I have no doubts you will be there and awesome as ever. Try not to be to hard on yourself. You're still my running girl hero!

Awww I am hugging you now! Hugging email picture to follow shortly. :) The last person I hugged was one of my best friends - Amber - she is a rock star and met me for the grand opening "freeview" at our new (and only) frozen yogurt joint. Picture already sent of the froyo.

Dinner tonight was about 9 cups of FREE froyo at Sweet CeCe's - okay, maybe 3 cups - before Zumba... I usually eat when I get home from teaching around 8:45 or 9, but tonight that frozen yogurt is still keeping me full!

Love ya!

I LOVE hugs. I always feel socially awkward going up to people for hugs though. I love when you first meet someone and hug them right from the get-go... I think it's somewhat a cultural thing in my case because that's how we do it in brazil haha :) but sometimes people are too uptight so i generally refrain.

when we meet and go to disneyland (because that is the master plan in case you've forgotten) I will obviously give you a big hug right then and there ;)

So, I've been secretly following your blog for quite some time (not so secret anymore, though).
I'm so sorry about the Boston news. Though, Swedish Fish can cure all unhappy thoughts and feelings. I do know this from experience. Another tactic I have found to work is going to 5 different Costcos on one day (during the peak sample hours) and eat 4 of each sample at each Costco. I'm serious. The mileage you put on your car going from Costco to Costco is totally worth it.
