Did this just happen.

As I was laying in bed after school, like I always do, watching an episode of 'I Used to Be Fat,' Billy said, "I know what we should do tonight......make cupcakes. I just found a picture of a dark chocolate cupcake with a chocolate chantilly filling topped with white chocolate ganache that I want to make."

It was the best thing I have ever heard coming from his mouth.  Not only is he becoming a runner but maybe a foodie too.  Muhahaha, my plan is working!

We used THIS recipe for the cupcakes and white chocolate ganache.

and THIS recipe for the chocolate chantilly filling.

I decided to take you on the journey of our Tuesday Night Cupcake Extravaganza.......remember, I am carb loading for Dogtown that is 4 days away.  Cupcakes are necessary.

Be prepared for a ridiculous amount of pictures.

Step 1: Drive to the grocery store because you don't have any of the ingredients for cupcakes.....I couldn't find any recipes using brocolli, m & m's and tuna so we had to go buy the goods.

IMG_4314.JPG

Nothing is hotter than a man in the chocolate aisle.

IMG_4318.jpg

I got some sweet bicep curls in while shopping

IMG_4319.jpg

Step 2: We came home and I blasted Sarah McLachlan and Regina Spektor.  Poor Billy had to listen to me singing at the top of my lungs.  I seriously could have died happy listening to my favorite songs while Billy was hard at work and I was testing the batter.

IMG_4321.JPG

IMG_4320.jpg

Step 3: All of this baking and singing required fuel.  I was going to just have a few packs of Black Cherry Shot Blocks to get me through my glycogen depletion until the cupcakes were ready but decided I should probably make us some dinner.  We had grilled chicken with pasta, broccoli and marinera sauce with a huge hunk of garlic bread.  This meal costs a total of $2.50 and it felt kind of fancy:)

IMG_4322.JPG

Step 4: Put the cupcake, filling and frosting together and thank your lucky stars you run because you know you are about to down three of these bad boys.

IMG_4335.JPG

Step 5: Contemplate doing the dishes, washing your face and picking up your purse that dropped and spilled all of its contents but decide that nothing is better than crawling into bed with a belly full of chocolate, your best friend and a smile.

------------------------------------------------------------

What was the last thing that you baked?

-CUPCAKES and on Sunday I made brownies for the fam.

FAVE cupcakes?

-These ones

Does your significant other enjoy baking/cooking? Do you like what they make?

-Everything tastes better when Billy makes it!

What is your workout today?

-I have to be honest....I am calling what I am doing tapering because my knees are not feeling so hot, I wouldn't normally taper before a 1/2.  Probably not my best idea to do a marathon and 20 miler within 3 days of each other.  So, I am going to be super optimistic and tell myself they are just a little bit tired.  I will be teaching spin at night:)  On the bright side I got to sleep in and sleep off my sugar hangover.

I think my FAVE cupcakes will happen tomorrow when I make above said cupcakes!

Hmm..I gotta get Tom in the kitchen. This is how much he knows about cooking: His text the other day was "Are hot dogs precooked?" I might have my work cut out for me!

Cross-training day for me with weights already done!

I tell myself I am baking them for someone else-its a lie, they are all for me! Favorite cupcake is prob red velvet. My husband likes to cook not bake and I dont like him to do either because he likes to much red pepper. Workout today: Run and a HIIT circuit....because of the cookie overload last night

What a fun cupcake adventure! Billy loves to cook. I'm getting better at cooking/baking. The last thing I baked was brownies. Can't beat a warm brownie. I had a long run Monday and an impromptu run with friends last night, so I'm taking it easy today. My knees need a break, too. I hope you are having a Happy Wednesday!

I love your zest for life!! :D I wish my man was that passionate about baking especially with chocolate. My bf just likes to cook, mostly grill. He makes all the meat in our household. And sometimes he throws together fancy salads. Oh and he makes a killer guacamole and any Mexican food you can think of. My role is baking. :)

I'll have to try to make these cupcakes soon since they're your new favorite!

Those cupcakes look amazing!! YUM.
My boyfriend is a better cook than me so when we cook or bake together he takes over and I get to watch and set the table... It's like having your very own live cooking show! The last thing we made were turkey burgers that were to die for! I was actually allowed to help!
My all time favorite cupcakes are probably just a nice basic vanilla with chocolate frosting. The frosting has to be really good though!
Today is suppose to be my rest day, but it's sunny outside so I might just run 3-4 miles for fun :-)

You're hilarious. I'm glad you and your man got to bake together last night. That's like the cutest thing ever. John and I used to bake muffins together all the time when we were dating but I think I get kind of bossy in the kitchen and scared him off...SHOOT! I need to lure him back now.....

Fave CCake: regular vanilla or strawberry.

My workout today will be lifting chest and tricep and then doing some cardio.

Have a fab Wednesdee!

That sounds like a perfect evening! Whenever my bf asks me to bake something special for him I get excited bc I looove to bake and I'll take any excuse to do it! Cupcakes are one of my favorite desserts! Something you should DEF try (as a fellow sugar lover) is crunchy sugar frosting - it actually is just combining store bought vanilla frosting and stirring in a lot of Sugar In The Raw - use that to frost vanilla (or whatever) flavor cupcakes and you end up with a crunchy sugar frosting that is so delicious! My family always requests "crunchy cupcakes" for any family gathering!

At February 23, 2011 at 8:06 AM , Blogger Regina said...

Last thing I baked was peanut butter cookies on Saturday. Aron does not bake or cook, I don't think anyone would want him to do that. (When we started dating, I was at his house and he opened up a can of beenie weenies (vomit) and put the can right on the stovetop! Culinarily inclined, he is not.
Still going slow with the STILL swollen knee, but I will be shoveling our too big driveway, and it will probably take me at least an hour- that counts, right?

Funny you should ask, my husband and I both love to cook and we "argue" a lot about who "gets to" cook.

I love cake in any form...Even cup. It's been 13 days since I've had cake, but I'm trying to get rid of some of my goo that's hanging around from the winter in order to wear a swimsuit and not be thoroughly disgusted with myself (P90X is helping me lose the jiggle). So, cupcakes are off the list for a bit. Instead, I'll be a good girl and do the healthy thing. :)

At February 23, 2011 at 10:07 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Haha...Billy said "chantilly" and "ganache".

They look yummy. Just the other day I had the best cupcake ever. This new cupcake and creamery opened by our house, and their "wedding cake" cupcake was both beautiful and like heaven in your mouth. I will have to go back and post about the experience. :)

Somehow I need to squeeze in a quick run this afternoon. I was up late and couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning.

I am usually the bad influence asking to make cupcakes, so I am excited that Billy is coming over to the dark side :)

What was the last thing that you baked?
Christmas cookies. Isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard? It's almost MARCH.

FAVE cupcakes?
A friend of mine just made these amazinggg vanilla and coconut cupcakes. SOOO GOOD.

Does your significant other enjoy baking/cooking? Do you like what they make?
My fiance loves to cook/grill, and I love to bake. We are going to have some pretty well-fed children.

What is your workout today?
Cardio-city. Elliptical/stairclimber 60 minutes total.

Yum those look so yummy, actually dinner looked just as good! My workout today was a 4 mile run (I'm pregnant and in my 3rd trimester so I don't usually run more than 5 miles right now so that's a good workout for me) and it rocked, its also my birthday so it was an awesome way to start my day at 4:30am in the dark with no one around but me and my mace!

Favorite cupcake: Red Velvet!

Love you girl you rock! Take it easy on those knees.

I love that you and Billy match, and I'm pretty sure I have the same shirt you're wearing! My husband cooks about 4 days a week at our house, and it's great! I'm a good cook, but I don't love to cook like he dooes, so I let him do it. ;o) And I completely agree that everything tastes better when the husband makes it!

Brian loves to bake but he loves for me to bake for him! WE both love any type of cake/cupcakes that are red velvet! SO yummy!

Today, I ran 3 easy miles. It was nice to catch up on some TV while running although I almost fell off a few times just because I was trying to read the captions on the TV.

If my hubby suggested I make cupcakes, I'd probably die! he discourages me from baking because we eat every bite it whatever I make and he feels guilty!

I actually just made funfetti cookies the other day. YUMMO!

Girl you are so cute!! I love your outfit in the store. I wish my boyfriend would bake with me. The one thing he can make is eggs--and this was only after I taught him. haha
